I'm getting my t61 next week, and thinking if getting t9300, but have a question. I know that I may have to update my BIOS, but I'm scared because I never upgraded laptop CPU. is it different from desktop upgrade?
Is there any guidance or suggestion you could give me?
Also if I do upgrade my CPU, is it going to trash my warranty (like it does if you mod Ps2 or xbox)?

I would suggest keeping the original CPU for if you have to send in the notebook to Lenovo for repair. Just plug the original back in and you'll be good to go. -
I have a question. Where do you buy notebook CPU's/GPU's?
-
You are going to void the warranty by upgrading the CPU, since you are going to have to disassemble the entire notebook.
In all honesty, upgrading the CPU is not going to give you the performance increase you are probably looking for. Unless you have a low end budget processor. Upgrading the RAM or hard drive is more much beneficial than just the CPU.
Most computers cannot upgrade their GPU. Stop asking, please.
CPUs are usually purchased through companies like NewEgg or CDW or ...? -

It doesn't make any difference unless you need a repair and THEN lenovo will be able to tell in a millisecond.
-
lol, no there isn't any void stickers

They made the notebook. I think the least they can do is notice when someone (novice especially) has tinkered with their product. This is probably like one o the things they check for... they aren't exactly stupid...

A CPU upgrade almost never justifies the cost or the time spend doing it, especially from one generation to the next.

However, it is pretty simple on the T61/T61p series...Lenovo even makes a guide ( ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/42x3546_03.pdf). If you are planning to upgrade, make sure you wait until a BIOS update which supports the new Penryn processors is available. There will be one for T-series with the 64** series motherboards and the 88** series motherboards coming out soon.
