Hey guys, I'm thinking of buying a new T500 to replace my current Macbook because I've been having issues with OS X:

    Intel Core 2 Duo processor T9400 (2.53GHz 1066MHz 6MBL2)1
    Genuine Windows Vista Business12
    15.4" WSXGA+ TFT, w/ CCFL Backlight
ATI Mobility Radeon 3650 with 256MB
    2 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1067MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)8
    UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad)
320 GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm4
DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer, Ultrabay Slim (Serial ATA)5
    Integrated Bluetooth PAN
Intel WiFi Link 5300 (AGN) with My WiFi Technology10
    Integrated Mobile Broadband upgradable65
    6 cell Li-Ion Battery60
    2081: 1 Year Depot Warranty - TopSeller7

I'm thinking of going with the smaller 160GB HD and upgrading to a larger one later down the road. How hard is it to upgrade the HD on one of these guys and is it easy to find and upgrade the RAM to 4GB? Can I do this by simply adding another stick to the empty DIMM slot? Any thoughts about this configuration would be appreciated. The current price on it is $1171.20.

Hard drive upgrade is very easy, one screw to get it out of the laptop (its on the front right side). RAM is slightly harder, you need to take four screws out to get under the palm rest. After the palm rest is off, you can access the rest of the parts by taking one more screw out (the keyboard).

Adding another 2GB stick of DDR3 will get you 4GB. The config looks good. I had a T61p like that, and I liked it.

I would suggest getting the P8600 processor instead of the T9400, unless you really need the CPU speed. The P-series saves power and also runs cooler.

Replacing the hard drive is actually easier than replacing the RAM - it requires the removal of only one screw. The RAM requires that you remove the palmrest panel, but that is not too tricky. I would highly suggest that you order a cheap hard drive with Lenovo, and add a better one later on. Your RAM configuration looks good - you can simply add a SODIMM later on (for about $30).

I purchased the nearly exact same config and so far i'm quite satisfied. This RAM works great and it took about 5 minutes to put it in. I got the 160 HD and am planning on adding a SSD eventually. I'd so go for it, funny because I replaced a Macbook with this comp as well.

I think you can get W500 for a comparable price.
