    I'm thinking of getting either a sony notebook (SZ/TX) or a T60p.
I have a few questions before I can make a decision.

I place importance in the screen of the notebook. I like the reflective glossy screens like the ones found on the Sony VAIOs or Fujitsu notebooks. I've never seen a T60p in person and have no idea where to see one.
    Here are a few questions
    1) How does the screen compare to the Sony VAIO SZ160 or TX770 ?
2)Is the thinkpad's screen the dull matte type or glossy also?
3)I have seen the R40 thinkpad, does it have the same screen the T60p uses?

Is there any reason why I should pick the T60p over the VAIO other than for performance reasons?

I use the computer mostly for skype, msn messenger, watching videos, dvd, maybe some light gaming, web surfing ( lots of reading ).

Is the T60p or SZ160 considered more portable?

    Thanks for the input people.

Don't know, never used a Sony
All of the Thinkpads have an anti-glare, matte finish. The new Lenovo 3000 notes are gloss, iirc.
Much different screen. The T60p has the best Thinkpad screen - UXGA IPS.
Build quality, service and support, recovery features, etc.
For these purposes you don't need a "p" unless you just want the fastest, most powerful thinkpad made. You could do all this with a T60 that cost a lot less. Any of the T60 with a 128MB Graphics card would handle you needs. If you travel or are on the go alot, you might be better served by a 14" screen rather than a 15" A little smaller, a little lighter.
Beats me, what does the sony weigh? The T60 range from 4.6 - 6.25 lbs depending on the model. If portablity is an important factor, I'd shoot for a 5 lb or less model.

    Good luck

Btw, I have a T42p. All the "p" models are considered mobile workstations. They tend to have lots of horsepower, they're sorta big and not really idea for travel. Great for me, however, since I work on processor intensive tasks and only carry it from home to office and back.

I would suggest something like the Asus W3j if you like glossy screens. It has a very good GPU for gaming and is well built.

Unfortunately W3J does not have DVI...

    Which one of Thinkpads have:

    -wide screen (WXGA+ or WSXGA)
    -GPU better than ATI x1400
    -15"
    -reasonably priced

the only widescreen thinkpads are the Z60s. the Z60m is the 15 inch version. the x1000 series cards are not available, I assume they will be with the upgrade to the Core Duo in the Z61m in the next few months.

Any of the T series are pretty portable, the 14 inch models are slightly smaller. No thinkpads have DVI built in, it's on some of the docks.
