I'm looking at getting a Thinkpad. I'm trying to decide between the R60 and X60 Series. My main dilemma is that the X60 only has that "rollerball" mouse on the keypad and NOT a touchpad. I've never used a Thinkpad before, but on other computers I hate that "keyboard mouse." It never works. So I always want a touchpad.

Are things different on Thinkpads or should I stay away from the "keyboard mouse?" What are your experiences?

I disabled the touchpad on my T42p because I can't stand the things. You never have to take your hands off the keyboard with the trackpoint.

How do you disable the touchpad? I've been unable to figure out how to do that?

I've used trackpoint on a Dell and you couldn't navigate to anything, it was so bad. Are the trackpoints on the Lenovo usuable with the same ease as a touchpad?

I've yet to see any other implementation of the Trackpoint (other than that on the ThinkPads) actually come to the point of being usable.

Dell trackpoints are so horrible. Having been a diehard touchpad man (even learned to use it with my thumb so I didn't have to leave the keyboard), I was converted after using my friends x41 for only 15 mins... they are that good.

    Regards,

    -U.

Man, I'm guessing that if I love my Dell pointing stick I'll REALLY love my T60's once I order it haha.

Smith, I can barely use the trackpoint on my dad's Dell, so I'm sure you'll love the Thinkpad's. I personally like the Thinkpad ones a lot.

the trackpad for R60 is small, so you will end up using the trackpoint anyway, so X60 or R60 makes no difference... you will end up using the trackpoint
