    Hi everybody,
I would like to ask you, I guess that here I can get some "serious" help to choose my Thinkpad model.

My needs are : I-5 Processor , 4gb ram (upgradable), 15" 1980X1080 HD screen, WWAN , the HDD doesn't matter since I will change it with an SSD.

I'm oriented to the L540. I can find the same configuration in all the Thinkpad series but I would like to know if the main difference between the different series, for example the E540 and the T540p, are just in the materials and in the "bulding" process of the notebook.

Did I miss any other model that could fit my needs?

Thanks a lot and sorry for the noob question

T series of the three higher quality. X, T, and W series are the best built, traditional ThinkPad lines with the roll cage. More durable than the lower range models.

You might want to consider the M.2 SSD for the OS, so you can leave the platter drive for storage where speed is not as critical.

As you go down the letter scale you'll get more plastic and less build quality, though certainly not bad and every notebook tells its own story. If you're not moving it much, it may not make that much of a difference.

I don't believe the E or L ThinkPads offer backlit keyboards if you care.

Though it is not a 15", I think the best model ThinkPad right now is the T450s. The 1080 LCD is IPS, which will give you better image quality than the notebooks you're looking at right now. Plus, it's more portable if that floats your boat.

Thanks for the answers ! :)

15" is a must for me, so the T450S is not good, and it even is out of budget.

One thing to bear in mind: FHD panels offered on the 15.6" ThinkPads at the moment are nothing to write home about, mediocre at best.

I'd definitely stay away from E series and go with L if you can't afford a T-series system.

    Happy shopping.

If 15" is a must, the Dell E6540 from the Dell Outlet might be worth a look. They can be had dirt cheap with coupons. They're solid notebooks with a three year warranty standard, though the stick and keyboard are not as good.s

Are FHD Panels of the equivalent DELL or HP models, like Latitude or Probook, better? I do not need a panel for Professional graphic work.

It looks pretty! But I can't find that model on the Dell Outlet. Outside the outlet it costs more than €1000 :\

I don't know about across the pond, but it's definitely available here in the US. If you've got access to the Dell UK Outlet, I've heard that's pretty good.

Yes, it is avaiable in the US store, I don't know if would be convenient for me to buy a laptop from US. Do you know if the warranty will be valid in Europe?
I have a question about the screen. I noticed that some models with 1366X768 res. costs. a bit more than the FHD 1980X1080. What does it mean? Shouldn't the FHD costs more?
