    Hi all,

I have an old Thinkpad (x31). I use to have Ubuntu OS, and one day when I power it up I got this- Error 0200: fix disk 0.
So I asked the 'smart one'.. google... about it - and i figure out that my HDD is probably died.
I deiced trying boot from USB drive... when I did it I got again the same error with little change- Error 0200: fix disk 1.

    so now my question:
do I need the HDD when I boot from USB floppy drive? (I guess no...)
if no what do the problem here?

    thanks.

    Welcome to the forum!

A missing - as well as defective - hard drive could throw that code.

Have you physically removed the HDD prior to booting from the FDD?

So I physically removed the hard drive and now it is boots.
probably new HDD will be needed... (or better give up my nice old laptop)

Well, it all really depends on how much use that oldie of yours is getting in the first place.

You can find a decent used PATA drive, 100GB or thereabouts for $30 or so...presuming everything else is OK, that's not a huge investment.

    Good luck.
