My work notebook is hooked up to a 22" Acer LCD monitor through a docking station. It gives me the following resolution choices:
    800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024, 1400x1050, 1600x1200, 1680x1050, & 2048x1536.

The native resolution for the monitor is 1680x1050, but I'd like to use a smaller res that still keeps the proper aspect ratio (16:10). I'd like to use 1400x900, but it isn't available.

Is there a way to add this resolution in XP or is it stuck with only what the notebook wants to allow? Also, we're using an older video driver (64mb ati 9600 mobility).
    Display driver: 8.1
    Control Panel: 6.14

I don't want to mess too much with the driver versions, but I'd like to get that 1400x900 rez if possible. Any ideas?

    I think you mean 1440x900.

Update the driver. You might need to start modifying the driver files to get that resolution, however. It is entirely possible your card doesn't support it though.

You can check by forcing it to show all resolutions in the menu, even if it doesn't specifically support them.
