I'm using a Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop, the screen on it is cracked and only the left 1/3 of it is functional. A couple weeks ago I got a virus on my laptop, the virus caused explorer.exe to close and re-open repeatedly. I tried alot of programs to remove the virus including spybot sd, adaware se, norton, avg... they all found threats and removed them but they didn't solve the problem.

I decided this morning that I would just reinstall windows, I don't have the original disc with all the drivers on it, only a windows xp sp 2 disc.
I put it in and booted from disc, i knew it would take a couple minutes to load the setup files so I got in the shower while it loaded, when I returned the laptop was powered down. I pressed the power button, the power light comes on, cpu fan spins, hdd makes audible noises(like it should), the HDD light blinks 4-5 times, and the moment the white lenovo screen comes up it crashes immediately. I've tried booting it up with out the hdd and it does the exact same thing.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks

EDIT: Not sure if it is considered a thinkpad actually, its a Lenovo 3000 N100

    It's not a ThinkPad.

You may have more luck getting help in Lenovo's Lenovo 3000 Notebooks board where there is a higher concentration of 3000 series owners.

    inthisriver,

Frankly it sounds like your system has a number of issues that you are working through. One suggestion...although you may have already done this...

The Windows XP install-cd doesn't include drivers for the AHCI-mode of the S-ATA drive. Therefore, on the models using this by default, you should set the SATA Controller Mode Option (in the BIOS setup) to "Compatibility" before installing windows.
