just curious as to what you think/know about this laptop. i know its old but im just looking for something more mobile and can handle internet and office

heres the basic spec i can get from the guy selling it:
    IBM Thinkpad 570e
    P3 500-700 MHz
    13.3" display 1024x768 resolution
    192 Mb RAM
    20 GB Harddisk
    USB port
    Ultra portable. 2.2 lbs.

what OS can i run on this? im thinking maybe 2000? also the 192Mb RAM seems inadequate, but then again we are talking about a pretty outdated machine.

Assuming everything works fine, how much do you think something like this is worth?

It will be a bit slow, but 2K should work.

Well, according to Wikipedia, the first Windows version to have Plug n Play was Windows 95. So would assume you could.

In my opinion, that computer is not worth buying. No offense.

I'd say $100-$150 for that machine sounds pretty reasonable if it's in good shape. It should easily be able to handle Windows 2000, or even a bare-bones version of Windows XP (I have an old Compaq desktop with similar specs that is currently running a stripped version of XP Corporate without breaking a sweat).

That said, if you're willing to put the in the effort required to get Linux up and running on it, I think you'd be very well served by a nice lightweight distro like Xubuntu.

Bah....don't be crappin' on the P3s...I still have a Micron P3-600 that I use occasionally for light internet and multimedia duties.

You should--95 required USB drivers to work properly, but 98+ worked without any hassle. If you don't have an external drive, there is always the possibility of a network install :D

Cool computer, but I dunno if I'd pay more than a $100 for it. You will likely need a new battery for it if you intend to use it on the go at all.
