Just wondering how many hours a thinkpad a20m with a 9 cell battery could pull off...
It has a p3 cpu if thats any help..
I checked processors listings and its listed as ~17 watts...
*seems too low compared to Pxxxx C2D's 25 watts
I know the ultrabay battery gives about 3 hours on that model...
All together, an ultrabay and a 9 cell off of fleabay would cost about 70 US dollars...
If i can pull off 8 hours of battery life, even though the laptop is clearly outdated, i think it might be worth the investment.

the 17/25w is just the tdp, or thermal design power - doesn't mean the actual power consumption.

Does the a20m display wattts consumed in the advanced tab of power manager, or does it predate this feature? If you can find the average watts your machine uses then calculating expected battery life with a 9 cell (typically 84 WHr) would be trivial.
For example, my x200 Tablet consumes between 6 and 9 watts on average. As a result I get 7-10 hours with a 66WHr 8 cell battery. I would expect your a20M to come in somewhere around 9-12 watts, but if you can verify it that would be ideal.
A quick check of the Tawbook (withdrawn ThinkPads) turned up this data. The A20m was only offered with the 6 cell (a 9 cell may not fit) and lasted 3.5-3.7 hours. The A20p came with a 9 cell and lasted 4.3 hours (presumably due to higher performance components). Therefore, if you can find a 9 cell that fits your A20m I would expect at most 5.2-5.5 hours with the 9 cell, plus another 1.7-1.8 from the ultrabay (assuming both batteries are in good condition). -
Thanks Jon,
the hard ware on this laptop is way to old...
I am just going to stick to my IdeaPad's 3.5 hour battery life. -

U dont want it due to weight. Trust me. If you are going to be in a sit where you have to carry the adaptor and the larger battery around its best to stick with the smallest battery. its weight you carry not charge time that is most important.
