    I posted in a thread here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/wha...-lenovo-thinkpad-edge-14-vs-ideapad-y460.html

But I think I should have posted it in this forum instead since I don't need laptop recommendations but rather help deciding on a laptop. From what I read online it seems like the Thinkpad Edge isn't a "real" Thinkpad but is it still better than the Ideapad? Both will fit my needs, I know that already. They are both about the same price with the web specials but if one is better quality (ex. keyboard, screen, etc.) than the other then that will help me a lot in deciding!

You're not allowed to cross post so maybe a mod can close the other thread.... Anyways, yes the build will be a little better on the Edge but not significantly better like a T410.

Y460 pros: Much more power CPU and GPU, great build in speakers and pretty decent battery life.

Edge pros: Build a little better, great keyboard and Thinkpad utility software.

Y460 cons: Does get hot while heavy gaming and the hard drive that comes with it isn't the best.

Edge 14 cons: Battery life isn't the greatest (3 hours if I recall) and IMO is slightly less bang for the buck.

Well, those two devices serve different markets -- one is primarily a media-centric consumer device (the Y460) and the other is business mobility device (the Edge.)

So, the question becomes which is more important to you? A design meant for extended portability, with a concession made to overall performance -- or a design meant for extended performance, with a concession made to potential durability?

I wanted my laptop to be a competent game player, but still get good battery life when I'm using it for business. I don't travel more than about twice a month, and I already have a very good Targus laptop backpack, so I went with the pimped-out Y460 model.

Also want to add that though the speakers are JBL, they are complete crap. Sounds like a very flat kmart stereo. But other than that, the computer destroys everything in its path....

Id def go with Y460P for 999 dollars with sandy bridge core i7 and radeon 5650 1G and 8gb of ram deal going on now. Too much value over the Thinkpad.
