    Hi,

I am planning to buy a Thinkpad Edge 15 with Core i5. Can someone suggest me whether this model is good?

    Thanks

Yes. It does not seem as rugged as the other Thinkpad models or the Edge 13", but build quality is still very good for a business-consumer hybrid. Unlike its little brothers (13" and 11") the Edge 15" is available with a matt display and ATI gfx.
Sound emission is low and keyboard is great.

The lack of regular docking and 9-cell battery is disappointing, but an USB port replicator is available though.

    Kind regards
    lars

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I am in dilemma to select better laptop between Dell Inspiron Core i3 (£429) and Thinkpad Edge 15 Core i5 (£529). My purpose is to browse internet, programming in Java with webserver, download movies. My budget is £500. I can go for £529 if Thinkpad is very good. Please suggest.

I appreciate if you suggest any other good laptops in this budget.

    Thanks
    JR

hi JR, the ThinkPad Edge is going to have a higher quality construction than the Inspiron and the processor is faster if it's a Core i5 versus a Core i3, can you post the full specs for both laptops you are considering (Memory/RAM, Storage Drive, Wireless options)? If you want more feedback about other laptop brands and your budget is the major factor I'd suggest you post in the What Should I Buy forum, if you detail to people what your needs are and what you'll be using the laptop for they can really help out better.

Here's a review of the Edge 15 on this site: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=5656 might want to Google and checkout other reviews.

I am not sure you need i5 for surfing the net and programming in Java. However, I believe the Edge 15 is available with i3, just like the Inspiron.

Are you really sure you want a 15"? I mean, 1366 x 768 looks better on a 14" or 13" display. Sometimes the 14" models have less flexing and a display with more uniform distribution of light.

    Kind regards

How much are you getting it for? The t410i with ecoupon is $640, t510 $750. Good prices for great machines.

    OMG
I just configured two models: l412 and Edge 15.
The same configuration in Sweden = double price.
Hmm....I have family relatives in the US........... ;)

    Kind regards

The Edge 15 has a good deal of keyboard flex (not to mention an undersized keyboard that is the exact same size as my x100e keyboard),especially under the Enter key on the right side. I wouldn't recommend this model.

Oh,and I've seen cheaper dells with better build quality, just not this newer batch they sell at Walmart

I agree that the Edge 15" feels less solid than Edge 14" and 13", but " a good deal of keyboard flex" ?? ....nope, perhaps if you compare with Thinkpad T/X-models but not if you compare with Dell, Acer and Asus. We have lots of Dells at work, both consumer and business lines.

    Kind regards

Please do remember that it is a 15" screen with only 1366*768. I would rather get the edge 14.
