    Thanks for the links.

"starts at $849" - that caught me by surprise a bit. I thought these started at $799 and the E220s at ~$899.

Yeah, it'll have the AMD Radeon HD 6630 option. And it's slated to be released late March.

which would be an obvious bonus for gamers..seriously considering this over the t420 now..think the sleek, modern approach with the moss black thinkpad finish is very classy.

Unfortunately according to the spec sheet and to overall impression I got they won't make a version with 1600X900 resolution. I am wondering how easy is is to put a t420 screen in it myself.

Me too. I'm looking for a new laptop to buy for school, watching videos, surfing, photoshop, and something portable. I was just thinking of getting the t420 over the edge because of the screen.

couldn't agree with you more. I'd be ok with the resolution given the price. A similarly configured T420(s) system would cost atleast $400 more.

You can't find a mid-range videocard in Classic Thinkpad. It would be great if they offer an 6630 on the T series.

yep, the overall price beats it...considering there doesn't seem to be many options for the e420s apart from the graphics and processor upgrade, its a decent base price.

that would be great but the target market for classic thinkpads are those that use it mainly for work and business. a 6630 would not be needed at all. Whereas the e420s is more of a consumer laptop which can be used for work and also those who intend to use it will have alot more interest in entertainment.

finally~ hopefully they wont charge too much for the 2gb discrete. as the video suggests a work/business laptop during the day and a decent gaming machine at night :D

    looking forward to it.

the lenovo UK site has also got the e420s up on the edge displays now..although it cant be ordered yet. Hopefully it'll come out this week.

I wish the screen wasn't glossy. That's really the main deal breaker for me here. I was just about to add it to my list of what to replace my T400 with next year until I noticed the screen. A bigger battery would be awesome too, maybe even a slice. To have enough battery life without extra batteries would really nice.

btw, 2GB is overkill for gaming considering the actual GPU. Hopefully there will be smaller VRAM options that are cheaper.

btw, on classic Thinkpads and gaming. Most people don't have another laptop other than company issue one if their company issues a laptop. I think there would be many workers that would appreciate the more entertainment oriented features. Also, GPU acceleration is around the bend and a business thinking in advance might want a laptop with a powerful graphics card.

"2gb of discrete graphics" - that's only to attract consumers.
If we don't have any information on the chipset of the GPU that will be used, that statement is superfluous.

Imagine having a Nvidia gt310m ... with 2gb of vram! That would be so useless! :D

actually its a AMD 6630m which we hope is a good mid range card (it should be faster than the 5770), although the 2g of vram is still useless for that kind of card

I came across this page and now am questioning whether certain websites (for example Engadget) typed out the wrong model number of the discrete graphics card in the E420s. If the 6330M model number (instead of the 6630M model number) is true, I think a lot of people in this thread will be disappointed. The 6330M seems to be a very weak graphics card.

Frankly it makes a little more sense to me that the weak 6330M card is used in this laptop considering the price and the fact that it's a part of the ThinkPad Edge line (intended for business rather than multimedia/gaming). Seemed too good to be true IMO. ;)

Cross your fingers and hope that LogicBUY is the one that is wrong!

No Optimus. I personally prefer the physical switch to Optimus, but AMD seems to have their Dynamic switchable graphics stuff which seems to be optimus like though.

its actually better than optimus with that buggy driver that never worked right, it uses a mux, instead of using the both cards at the same time

e420s out now on Lenovo US site. But only with intergrated graphics. I guess the dedicated will be out on 29th? The price is looking good though..you can get a basic config for $699.

Anyone know when its coming out in the UK?

Sorry, i should have mentioned it was a "practice" cto- to see what the total would be. Not ready to pull the trigger yet- waiting for reviews (and the low res glossy screen kinda bothers me)
i5, micro ssd, bluetooth, and 3 year onsite+ Thinkpad protection (78Y1633)

Yeah, thats what i meant- there was no option to add it

    ^oh ok!

It would be really strange if this came pricier than the vaio SB with i7 2620m and the 6630m I can get it for 1300

And since lenovo kindly offered me no option, due to the need of VT, I will go for the i7 2620m as well.

i don't see the option to add i7. It only lists i3 and i5, when the tech specs say 'upto i7'.

Is that scheduled for a later release?

The Canadian site lists the pointing device as: ClickPad with Fingerprint Reader

I'm not sure, but does this mean there's no red dot in the middle of the keyboard?

Waiting for the review of this one and the E220 as well. I'll get one of them if the heat doesn't kill the deal. I don't mind loud but cool running lappy.
Build quality should be on par with other thinkpad but may not be as tough.

those of whom are not too sure about the e420s, its straight competitor vostro 3450 is out and for me is looking more superior at this present time. The same 14" screen and sandy bridge option (i3, i5 and i7) but it has.....

    - a matte screen
-offers 1gb of AMD 6630 (not the overkill 2gb)
    -has a backlit keyboard
-it also has a fingerprint reader
-design (although this depends on preference), i think it looks very nice. Though not on par as e420s.

looks like i've got some decisions to make. Seriously considering the new dell vostro now.
