Hey guys just wanted to know if you guys have any input on this.

This is regarding my old Thinkpad T42 which had a dead CCFL. I tried unsuccessfully the first two times to change the CCFL. My clumsy hands broke it twice and it was really getting on my nerves. I finally got a new computer and wanted to keep my T42 as a side project.

I finally got around doing it yesterday. Bought a new CCFL, swapped it into the LCD and presto it works. I tried to power it on and it works except for some minor smudges on the LCD edges probably due to my hands touching the panel when it was open.

Now the problem starts when I fix the bezel up to the LCD. Firstly the CCFL would power on and off whenever I try moving the LCD screen. When it is off I could see a dim Windows in the background. I could shut off the monitor (FN+F3) and it would be bright again. I know that this sounds like an inverter problem and lucky for me I have a brand new inverter I ordered some time ago before finding out I had a dead CCFL.

I swapped the new inverter in and the problem is a bit different. It lights up but there is a high pitched buzzing sound. To get rid of it I have to remove two screws from the bottom left bezel. The screen works perfectly then but whenever there I put some pressure on the bottom left hand corner (i.e. while moving the screen back and forth) the buzzing sound comes back. The LCD doesn't entirely power off (unlike from the old inverter) it gets dimmer when I move the screen back and forth until I find an angle where it stops the buzzing.

    So quick summary:

Old inverter: CCFL Powers on and off when I move the screen back and forth.

New Inverter: High Pitched Buzzing Noise when I apply pressure (move screen back and forth) at the bottom left hand corner of the bezel.

Both inverters work as it powers the CCFL up but the problem starts when I start moving the screen bezel. I am thinking there could be 2 potential problems.

    1) The connection with the inverter. I double and triple checked and everything is hooked up correctly.

    2) Maybe it's due to the soldering of my CCFL. I don't think they are exposed wire as I coated the connections at the soldering site with epoxy and let it cure for 24 hours. But a fray wire might explain why when I apply pressure to the bottom left corner (incidentally where one of the solder connection to the CCFL) it starts buzzing due to a break in the circuit or smth.

I would appreciate any suggestions or input you guys have.

    Thanks. :)
