I have been looking at the Thinkpad series for my next laptop but have not read much of anything concerning the L series. Can someone please enlighten me on what the L Series brings to the table, so to speak, and how is it different from the T and Edge series. Thanks.

L Series is cheaper, but doesn't include the magnesium rollcage found in other Thinkpads. Plus, it's a bit heavier than your comparable T series laptop.

It's kind of tweener of the T and L series. The L530 got a nice write up over on notebookcheck.

If you care about the environment and like your dollars to talk, the L series is the most environmentally friendly ThinkPad. The LCD cover, palm rests and top and bottom of the case use post consumer recycled material (PCC), something like 30% composition which is very high and indicates all those used up soda bottles and grocery bags are getting put to use. They also meet the EPEAT Gold standard, which few laptops do:
Environmental Criteria « EPEAT
Specs wise internally it is a lot like the T430 / T530 just different materials used for case and internals. I think Lenovo is able to sell a lot of these to government agencies required to buy products that meet certain environmental standards -- at least that's my guess. -
Aside from the differences pointed out by the above, they're pretty much the same, just with certain configuration options left out for the L series (I don't think the L530 has an available 1080p display, for example).

Really do appreciate all of the replies. I remember when the Edge series came out how the discussion was it really wasn't a Thinkpad because of the build, etc. I bought two of the 1st generation Edge, one for my wife and the other for my daughter, and they are doing quite well. How does the Edge compare in build quality to the L series? Thanks again.

They are probably about the same. Both are plastic-shelled laptops without and reinforcement in the inside.
