My thinkpad T60 would not play any videos. I could hear sound but can't see nothing. I've downloaded k-lite codec pack and still no luck. Is there any special software I need to download for my T60 to play videos? thanks in advance

    are using mplayerc.exe?
if so, and with zoom set to 100% what happens to the window when you drag and drop a video file into it?
also, have you tried using fullscreen mode (as opposed to the window maximized)?

But frankly, I don't know what is happening.

and what codec is that? if it is not one of the most common ones, and if you have installed k-lite basic or standard, you might need to try the full version.

and for quicktime and realmedia, there are other options elsewhere

Give VLC player a shot. It will usually play back any kind of media even without the required codecs. If that doesn't work, check your settings for overlay, and try playing back videos when hooked up to an external monitor.

what about uninstalling k-lite, rebooting, trying the video (keep mplayerc.exe!), and if no good, then reinstalling k-lite full v 4+

what codec are you trying, anyway?

hmm, this is not going to be an entirely intelligent suggestion but..

in my old desktop the graphics card would use overlay in CRT screens, but no overlay in lcd. I had dual monitors and if I moved the window over to the lcd display from the crt, there would be nothing in it, though the video kept playing

so, I'm wondering, all those programs, one of them might have set some setting to overlay mode.. maybe?

I had a similar problem on one of my desktop systems. It's not a codec or player issue but rather a video driver problem. If you haven't upgraded your video drivers lately, try upgrading your video drivers to the latest version. If you have recently upgraded them, try downgrading them to the previous version.

If you can't find a video driver version that works, you should be able to make VLC work by changing the video output module in VLC preferences. Select settings > preferences > output modules. Enable the 'advanced options' checkbox and work your way through 'DirectX 3D video output,' 'DirectX video output,' 'OpenGL video output' and 'Windows GDI video output' until you find something that works. You'll have to stop and restart playback every time you change this option.
