    I just aquired an IBM Thinkpad R31.

    Specifications are;

    Without knowing what you plan on using it for it's tough to say, but maxxing out the memory is a safe bet, especially if you plan on moving to WinXP.

    This computer will be mostly used for documents, internet, and music MP3 files, I also would like to install WinXP- Pro.

    I'd stick in another 512MB or 1GB stick of memory and see how it goes. That may be enough for you. If you have a slower 4200RPM drive, which I think the R31s do, that may be worth considering upgrading. You could pick up a CDRW/DVD drive or DVD burner on eBay if you want make discs.

    I really like 2k. It's my favorite Windows OS. I ran it for years after XP came out.

    It'll work great for your uses, if you upgrade the RAM. Thinkpads from that era are built like nothing else.
