    Hey All,
Just wondering how good these things are in the new "modern" world, will they be any good, for office work, msn, net browsing, etc. I plan on buying a laptop for school, and having a beast of a desktop at home to use and dock the laptop so i can also use that.

I can get the R51 for $399AUD, with Centrino 1.6GHz, 15.1" LCD, 512MB DDR RAM, 40G HDD, DVD/CDRW COMBO DRIVE, BUILT IN WIRELSS, WINDOWS XP HOME, FREE CARRY BAG > upgrade ram to 2gb, upgrade hdd to 120gb, upgrade to xp pro, and probably dvd burner but probz not.

    Thanksssss,

My r51 has been great and I have not upgraded anything.

Well, that was until the middle of last month when my internal wireless card went to crap.

Any Pentium M based machine will do those well. They're not too CPU intensive. The thing you that's most worrisome about the R51 is the GPU issue, but it's got the Intel card, you're in like Flynn.

I've had my R51 for five years and it's performed faithfully for me. It took drops, being tossed around, having food and crumbs between the keys, and more during my college years and didn't miss a beat. I had it repaired once to fix a defect with the case, but that was it.

I think an R51 is perfectly fine for those uses. I'm actually typing this on mine right now. The truth be told, if it wasn't starting to show its age in other ways then I wouldn't have pulled the trigger on a T500.
