    Hi all,

    I have an R60, 1.6Ghz Core 2 Duo, 1GB RAM, Intel GMA 945

I've tested a 720p Divx clip on the machine to see what it can currently do. While it looks good (as good as it can on this laptop), either the CPU, memory or graphics card (or all of them) is slacking off as the thing freezes and skips throughout.

I'm wondering if another 1GB of memory would allow for normal playback or if I should just bug out and look for a more suitable option to watch HD?

    Any ideas are welcomed. Thanks.

I've tried both VLC and Divx player. Frames skip randomly in both so I'm fairly sure that other players would probably give the same results.

Better yet, use the CCCP codec pack.

Make sure you have uninstalled all your old player/codec.

If you still have issues, you can try Core AVC which is the best software codec for h.264 playback, but its not free.

ur laptop can play them.you just need the right media player and codecs. before ive used them cccp codecs with media player classic or smplayer.but even with them two i would still get some problems playn some mkv movies.so i herd about core avc codecs on a forum and use them along with media player classic and it works a treat. i havent had any problems with any mkvs. try it.

doestn vlc have its own codecs anyway. i did get the new vlc but like befor it would only play certain mkvs, but yeah. try core avc codecs along with the mpc
