using cpu-z, it says i have an i943/940GML chipset.

guys i need help in answering these questions:

    1. is it possible to upgrade to a core duo or core 2 duo?
    2. what is the most effective chipset identification utility out there? i have tried PC Wizard 2007, cpu-z v1.41, Intel Chipset ID Utility, Everest & astra32, they all return multiple results???
    3. would i be better off with a maxed out ram and a 7200rpm hd?

Don't think so. Processor and graphic cards are generally not upgradeable in laptops.
More ram is always welcome :D But seems there is a max limit for 32 bit OS (like, even if your machine is up to 4 gb of ram, your 32 bit OS will recognize less than that). 7200 rpm is good, but seems to make your laptop a little warmer.

    Yeah, reading and learning...

Unless the processor is soldered onto the board, it is possible to upgrade to a Socket M Core Duo/Core 2 Duo. Graphics cards are not usually upgradeable unless otherwise specified (in the R60e's case, no).

i know for t61's, the cpu's are upgradable...however, getting to the cpu is a big pain and requires great expertise. You just have to make sure you stick with the same "socket type"

Yes is possible. If the chipset is 940GML, only the CoreSolo T1350 533 fsb. The Dual Core don't work.
If the chipset 945GM then you can use the T2050 or later... with 533 fsb.

fbarradas, are you 100% sure T1350 works with 940GML for R60e? I have also R60e M430 940GML, I want to upgrade it. Did you tried T1350 for your R60e notebook?

I cannot answer your question, but this may be of interest. The Core Solo seems a safe bet, while the Dual-Cores seem more risky. Even if you can only go to a Core Solo it should yield better battery life due to the CPU throttling and less noise. Good Luck.
