    Thinkpad R61 j blinks on screen

    Thinkpad R61 j blinks on screen. Any suggestions?

    i think you should start a new post. Can you be more descriptive of the problem? i.e. how frequently does it blink, and what sort of pattern does it blink in? OS you are running? Video driver version no.

    Also, what is the type/model number of your R61? xxxx-xxx?

    P.S. is the blinking behaviour also occurring on the external LCD?

    I am new to this site and I am not sure how to start a new post.

    Model Numbert 7743-A11. OS is XP. Not sure of the driver version. The machine start up with THINKPAD in the middle then goes blank then a j with a blinking curser next to it so up in the upper left hand corner. Nothing else happens, if you hit a key it just beeps.

    By the way the screen works fine and I can get into the BIOS mode.

    did you set any password or anything on the computer? also can you get into the bios menu okay?

    Yes, I can get into BIOS. Yes, there is a password on the computer, but I can't get the far.

    Sounds like an odd problem, you can try flashing the BIOS to a newer revision to see if that helps by creating a bootable disc and run it. Also check if the ThinkPad is set to boot to the hard disk drive directly.

    go into your bios, then run the hdd test.

    I am running the hdd test now. It seems to being staying at 0%. I will give it more time.

    what if you press the blue thinkvantage button during the initial startup? also can you make a linux discs and try to boot from the live cd?
