I'm really surprised it hasn't been brought up. Maybe it has and I missed it. Anyway, I'm not really that interested. I just want the T61p like everyone else around here.
If you haven't heard of it then go to http://www.thinkpadreserve.com/.
If you've already been there you know as little as the rest of us. But, for what it's worth here is a supposed leaked photo of the Thinkpad Reserve. Could be a phony, but since there is so little information I thought someone would want to see it:

Personnaly I wouldn't want it. I think it would look like crap in about 6 months.

I wouldn't care for it either... and considering ThinkPads are business notebooks, I'd say it's completely fake. What type of business provides leather notebooks for its employees?
Oh, and you think it'd look like crap in 6 months? I think it'd look like crap immediately.

BTW, ooops. I just did a search and found that there is already a thread on this. It hasn't been active in about a week though. -
David Hill, at lenovo blogs, has already said that it was not glued on patches of leather... as such I'm not inclined to believe that photo. Lenovo has done a pretty bad job of marketing the reserve edition though because I don't really want it either!

All wrapped up in leather, I would think this notebook would have some serious problems with heat dissipation.

I'm sorry, but I think leather wrapped around a notebook looks like crud
It makes it look like you're trying too hard to be something. Be what? I dunno, maybe be cooler.

found a (maybe fake) pic: http://de.gizmodo.com/2007/05/29/thinkpad_reserve_gleicht_intel.html
edit: hmm, probably isn't the reserve edition. on http://notebookitalia.it/la-prima-immagine-della-thinkpad-reserve-edition-di-lenovo.html it says its the yoga-concept and on http://www.lenovoblogs.com/designmatters/?p=167 it says that the reserve edition isn't yoga :-/ -
I wouldn't want it either, but it's better than I thought it would look. Should be black leather of course.
-
I don't know how to feel about it. The coming generations of notebooks are looking more and more like actual paper books. With the convertible tablet design you can even use them like a paper book. That said, it makes sense to design one like a premium leather-bound book. I can't say that I want that, but the Asus VX2 is nice.
-
Remember a lot of business men like a professional look though and that does look professional whether you like it or not.
Coach, Leather Briefcases, Leather PDA Cases, etc. have all been very popular and are widely used, so I am sure a leather bound notebook done right could be a big seller.
I would want black though -
I want it....
-
anyone know where I can get a leather cover like this or similar to this for my x61 ?

Guys, this is not for your every day user; this is meant as bonus's to executives; particularly CIO's. I think they are trying to make it look more like a 'book' than a computer;
Also the reason why its so expensive is b/c of the tech support that comes with it; supposedly they will have someone there within 2 hours of a call; 24/7.
Also, it is probably gauranteed to have the best parts to it; nmb keyboard, best LCD, etc. and it is probably more well-built than the normal configured models (CTO)
I still wouldn't want it
Stallen, I think that picture is real though
