Anyone been to www.thinkpadreserve.com lately? It says on the final screen that it will be revealed in 2 days. So I guess that's June 14th! At least Lenovo is announcing the release date of something!!!!
So I'm not interested in a laptop wrapped in leather. The lenovoblog http://www.lenovoblogs.com/designmatters/?p=167 says it's "not glued on patches of leather?" I still think that could mean that it is wrapped and stitched with leather. As the "leaked" photo that we have all seen implies.
Again, I'm not really interested in the Thinkpad Reserve. I'm interested in the Thinkpad T61P. But what if the Thinkpad Reserve has nothing to do with leather.... just what if...
The Thinkpad Reserve is the T61P!!!
I'm sure it's just wishful thinking![]()

The only thing that seems irritating to me is that the leather would need to come off when you wanted to switch batteries, and presumably dock it as well.
Just seems kind of odd.
Did anyone ever confirm the price? Someone was throwing around a price of $5000 which seems excessive even for a limited edition item. Although I guess if the point of it is to be a status symbol for high-paid execs, it makes sense. -
Watch, they release the T61p and it is the reserve but they don't offer it with just the regular plastic shell and it's 5000. That'd be a huge slap in the face. Worse than releasing the 15.4" without a dedicated graphics card.
-
It says revealed, not released. Kinda makes me think that unveiling does not equal availability.
-
ya i think they are just going to finally tell you specs of the laptop... like wieght size ect.. not processor ram ect..
that will screw with you even more... -
how about they spend their creative energies on getting T61s out the door.
-
Anyone from the elder days recall how long it took T60 to get the T60p?
-
Good question.
-
This morning thinkpadreserve said at the end "... will be revealed today". Just a few minutes ago I checked and it said ... "will be revealed in 1 day". That's what it said all day yesterday! Whatever....
from engadget.com:
-
Here is what I found:
The Limited Edition run will go for $5000
Is being made to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Thinkpad
More will be revealed on June 15th. -
lol, they screwed up on their countdown
-
15th makes more sense actually and the counter says one day to go (today is the 14th). So I do not see how it was messed up, no where does it say 14the site now.

Check out this link has a very cool looking picture of what it may look like I assume http://www.h4cker.cc/2007/06/06/thinkpad-reserve-5000-june-15th.html

As it is, I still don't understand the practical benefit of the concept design in that link. I don't see what benefit it gives over, say, a tablet PC form factor. And it seems like it would only be an inconvenience to have to remove the mouse and keyboard and set them up separately, balance the screen, etc. Other than looking different, I don't see the advantage it has over a traditional tablet form factor. -
Obviously Lenovo doesn't know anything about keeping a date! -

Though your right it does not seem very practical, im not sure practicality is the top priority. To me this notebook seems to be more of a flashy toy for execs to show off.....I must say I do think it looks pretty bad ass -
That is, what does having a laptop that you remove the keyboard and mouse from and flip over the screen let you do that a traditional laptop form factor (or at least Tablet PC form factor) don't let you do? It seems like all it causes is extra setup time to set the laptop up to use, and extra time to put it back together when you're done.
It would be one thing if perhaps the keyboard and mouse offered some improvement over a traditional keyboard and mouse you'd find on a laptop, but I'm not sure it does (the only benefit I can possibly see is maybe having the trackpad to the left of your keyboard instead of under it, making it sort of more like using a mouse with a desktop, at least in terms of where you put your hands. But I'm not sure that is worth it. -
you know what would be hot?
BLACK LEATHER.
brown leather=mleck. -

Maybe the keyboard and mouse are just extra, and the normal keyboard is not removable. Perhaps the key board in the picture along with the mouse are blue tooth enabled devices for home or office use that are meant to stay on your desk and look stylish??
EDIT: On second thought I don't know who would want to use those as opposed to a real keyboard and mouse.....that was just me thinking out loud -
See? People need to stop posting pics, and links to pics, of the Lenovo Yoga. It is NOT the ThinkPad Reserve model, which looks more like a regualar TP with a removable leather skin.

Yaiks !!! -
The thinkpadreserve.com site has said "...will be revealed today." Sure the day is not over, but still know sign of being revealed and the typical work day is almost over. It's nice to see that Lenovo is consistent about being late on there releases!!
Anyway, some more probable pics of the thinkpad reserve:
-
... looks like an X60 taco.
-
Are these pictures for real?
-
They added some stuff to the www.thinkpadreserve.com site.
and revealed it.... -
I'm sorry but those pictures... especially the top one; it just looks lame.
-
OMG, those pictures are for real.
They just wrapped an X61s in leather. Who in the right mind would purchase this Frankenstein? -
Whoever designed this leather Frankenstein should be hanged.
-
I think Asus did a better job in integrating leather into notebooks
-
Leather and notebooks just do not mix, period!
If it's titanium alloy then we are talking -
I hope there is more to it than in the pics, that one looks horrible.....
-
I agree, I like my T61 stock much much much better than that.
Carbon Fiber, Titanium, Aluminum, but please not leather at least in that fashion (looks like a notebook cover or something, not an actual special edition). -
here is the spec sheet
-
Leather covered notebook. Oh man I'm just going to crap my pants that's so awesome. Not.
-
I bet it has integrated graphics. What a dud.
-
An all carbon fiber or all titanium alloy exterior would look MUCH better.

ew, not my style. Doesn't look right at all. The leather looks way slapped on and out of place.
-
Looks kinda like a bible when it's closed.
-
The response to it has been so thoroughly negative, that I'm surprised they still went forward.
-
-
boy, thats really stupid
-
Honestly, I don't think Lenovo's going to have trouble selling these; presumably they will invite really rich execs, etc. to buy it, and it will become a status symbol ("Hi, I'm a rich exec who has a $5000 exclusive ThinkPad!"). -
Or they are probably just giving them away to rich execs...
ThinkPads and leather just do NOT mix!
Thinkpad Reserve = June 14; Thinkpad T61p = who knows
