I am debating purchasing the S431 running Windows 8 pro, but I've read many negative comments about its Wifi. Any S431 owners out there who have been able to fix this issue? Is the Wifi still a problem for this model?

I bought one about 10 months ago. It sucks. Really.
I used to use thinkpads 15 years ago for work, and they were amazing laptops. Wow, times have changed.
First of all, to answer your question, no, they haen't resolved anything. I got mine with windows 7, and right from the beginning the wifi sucks. It will connect, but -very- slow. Even in the same room as the router, 5 feet away, ridiculously slow. My other laptop, an Alienware, and all of our apple devices, connect super fast from anywhere in our house.
The IBM tech came buy last week and replaced the wireless card and antenna in the laptop. Didn't help one bit. Even he didn't know why this model has such issues. Maybe it is the type of motherboard used? Who knows, in theory there should be no issue.

Now, beyond the wifi, the trackpad is terrible, and incredibly frustrating. The tech said the same. I don't know what other laptops in this price range are any good, but I know this one sucks. Wish I hadn't bought it.
