Sound like a good deal to me, but as always it all depends on what you plan to do with it.

Well it's going to be mostly for business use. Don't really play games. Just want a durable laptop after a horrible experience with a flimsy Gateway laptop. I will be running some engineering programs but if my Gateway can handle those, I am pretty sure a Core 2 Duo won't have any problems with it.

That T60p will last you for two or three more years of use. The 9 cell battery alone is worth 100 dollars. If you trust the guy who sells you the lappy, and if it looks well take care, I might say go ahead. You always can check the Lenovo outlet for similar prices, or some websites like overstock.com

    Good luck!

I'm typing from a T60 atm. I can guarantee you the build quality is great (can provide examples of what this poor laptop has been through lol).

As for the performance, I run programs like Matlab 2009, Maple 12, Altera Quartus with no problems. But I don't expect it to last for more than 2 maximum 3 years from now.

Thanks for the replies guys. I appreciate it.

The Gateway I currently have gets really hot (it's an AMD-TL60) and tends to shutoff when it reaches a certain temperature. I've lost a bunch of work this way.

His laptop is two years old. From the looks of it, it seems pretty taken care of. I know Thinkpads are known for their durability so this seems like something I need. Does this laptop tend to get hot also?

No, AMD based laptops get extremely hot (I know this because I used to have a Compaq HP v6000z and a dv6000z). But for the sake of truth that heat was caused by the crappy nvidia gpu (Go 6150). AMD systems just run a little bit hot than Intel ones. The GPU is most of the times the main heat source.

I guess the T60p uses the Intel T7250 CPU?

    I'll run pretty cool.

The V5250s in the T60p are know to run fairly warm. I'd say if you don't need the GPU you might want to look for a standard ThinkPad. What's the machine type?

You might want to take down the serial number and check with Lenovo to see if its "hot" not in the sense of the video card or computer but if that thing is stolen. The market prices all things efficiently. If its too cheap, then there is a reason. This goes for stocks, houses, and computers should not be excluded.

Nine months ago, I could have gotten a similarly equipped T60p on eBay for around $500, but I upped the budget and went for a brand new T500 instead. This week, I bought a loaded T43 (with the exception of the screen, a 14.1" SXGA instead of the 15" IPS SXGA) on behalf of my parents for $275. The cheapest T60 laptops with ATI graphics were going for $330-350. $360 for the T60p is a great deal, especially since it looks like it's the second generation T60p with the 15.4" widescreen, Core 2 Duo, and FireGL V5250.

Yep. Those are the exact specs. Ended up buying it. The resolution is great, doesn't get too hot and great battery life with the 9 cell battery!

Thanks everyone for you suggestions. And no, the laptop is not stolen. The guy have me a receipt with it.

it is an extremely good deal, but you should ask what screen size and resolution you are getting with that T60p.

The screen size is 15.4 and the resolution I get is like 1600 x something. It is great.
