    Hello :)

    I have a Thinkpad T22, using Win 2000.
The machine turns itself off (not standby) after anything between 20 minutes or 2 hours. (we think this is temperature related).
We have the latest BIOS power management and are clear of any virus infections. We have cleaned out all vents including removing the fan and checking for correct air flow. We notice that the cooling fan does not any longer cut in, so:

    i) can someone say at what temperature the cooling fan should cut in?
ii) WHat remedial steps can be taken to remedy this problem - note, the cooling fan appears to turn on for one or two seconds when the machine is first powered up, suggesting that the fan works correctly. Would this suggest that there is something controlling the fan, that no longer works?

    Kind regards
    Rae

The fan kicks in on my T42 around 45ÂșC. If you have done all the updates and cleaned everything out, you should probably take it somewhere and have it looked at.

Most likely it's full of dust and isn't cooling properly. Take is by a Best Buy and let the Geek Squad guys take a look at it.
