    Hello,

I have owned a Thinkpad T23 for about 5 years. I still like this machine to this day.

When I first purchased it, I did a CPU speed test on the P-III M chip. It measured 1200 MHz like it should.

Yesterday, I did a speed test, and it averaged about 60 MHz !

Is my CPU bad, do the new CPU speed testers not work for this old chip, or other?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Does it feel as fast as you remember it feeling? It could be that the newer software do not work correctly. What software were you using?

It seems about as fast as before for applications, but web browsing is now much slower.

I tried both "CPU Speed Professional" and "CPU Speed". They were free downloads.

Try CPU-Z. What browser are you using? Also, in what way is it slower?

Use CPU-Z to determine the clock speed.

Thank you for all the replies.

I backed up, wiped the disk, and am re-installing windows. I downloaded CPU-Z and will try shortly.

I hope I can keep my t23 going.

I ran CPU Z and it said core speed was 1199 MHz. Is this the value it measured? Does this mean my CPU is OK (at least running at the correct speed)?

    Thanks sniper sung.

I have two old boxes with a P-III 400 MHz and Celeron 1000 MHz. Even the programs that said my t23 was 60 MHz showed about 396 MHz and 997 MHz for the others. Hard to make sense of this.

You mean the programs can measure your two old desktops correctly, but still not your laptop?

You could also try Fritz Chess Benchmark. It measures the performance of your CPU with reference to Pentium III 1GHz.

CPU-Z measures the clock speed about once or twice a second. So, yes, it is accurate.

I'd look into other factors for your web browsing slowing down, such as your internet connection and the browser that you use.
