I have a T30 that I've had maybe a year now and the fan noise has become unbearable. Has anybody else had an issue with this particular model or does this happen in a lot of T-series machines? I just got through cleaning the inside of the chassis and it is still very loud.

Will replacing it with a new fan (46L4753) fix the issue?

    Thanks.

""Will replacing it with a new fan (46L4753) fix the issue?""

Why not? It was not loud when it was newer, right? So, replacing older with the newer one should bring it back to a newer stage.

I may be totally off, and if so, please disregard my post. BUT if I remember correctly IBM T30 uses a P4 chip. Meaning that it will generally run hotter than the usual PM; thus meaning the fan is running longer and more often. If I can put "2 and 2 together" the T30 Series fan should wear out faster, making the louder noise part of your normal wear and tear?

Yeah, but that doesn't mean that it won't be helped by a new fan.

If the fan is now much louder than it was when you first got the machine, getting a new fan should help.

My roommate has a T30 and it is blissfully silent... which is one of the reasons why I opted for a new Thinkpad after my loud-as-a-jet-engine Dell died. It's strage that yours would be so loud - you should try replacing the fan or send it in to IBM for them to check if the computer is still under warranty.
