    Hi,

I recently reformatted my IBM Thinkpad T30 hard drive, reinstalling XP in the process. However, despite the fact 2 memory slots exist accumulating 768 MB, only one slot is registered by the BIOS and even when viewing total RAM within XP. Both memory sticks are working okay as I swapped them over for testing, but it is just the one memory slot that is not registering one of the sticks.

I have updated all drivers and I am running the latest version of BIOS. Both memory sticks were detected prior to reformatting. I am aware of the problem regarding Thinkpad memory slots failing after some years of use but is it a coincidence that this problem has occurred for me after reformatting?

    Thanks.

    Just bad luck.

Sometimes pressure helps, I temporarily fixed same issue in my mother's T30. I put folded paper between the memory slot and cover so it pressed the slot into the motherboard. It worked for a while.

The T30 is famous for having a memory slot problem where the ram slot pins separate from the motherboard. You can try to solder the pins back yourself, that usually fixes the problem. Several years ago I had a T30 that had this issue and fixed it myself.

What you can do is go to forum.thinkpads.com

I had a T30 last year that thankfully did not have this problem. I have since sold it and during that time found a great forum with people who know the ins-and-outs of all Thinkpads!
