    Hello,

Anyone has T40 series? If so, I would like to compare mine with yours for cooling fan performance. I bought a thinkpad T40 series a few days ago.

When I use AC power, the fan is spinning and never stops (it
emits not hot air and I believe it is running unnecessarily. Furthermore, when it spins, it does not spin fast).

However, If I use the battery, it is working fine (i.e, sometimes on and then off after a few minutes).

Is it normal condition on the AC power mode or is there any way to set the fan environment such as heat detect?

Always spinning a fan makes me annoying. please let me know if you have any advise.

    John

When running from AC line, power management will allow the CPU to run at full speed (1.x Ghz), which makes it run hotter. On battery, the CPU backs off to 600 Mhz (cooler running). So this appears to be normal. If you don't need the speed, you can use a freeware like SpeedswitchXP to change the power management settings to keep the CPU at 600 Mhz when running from AC line. It will stay cooler.

    Hi james32904..
Thank you for your reply. Even though running fan all the time is not problem, it generates some noisy (not loud) and it bother me.

I am just curious.. running fan only depends on CPU temperature? Because this problem occurs only when I use IBM 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI adapter. If I use ethernet cable for internet and turn off the wireless function, the fan is working fine even under AC power mode (stop and run regularly).

Meanwhile, let me try the SppedswitchXP program.
    Thank you.
