My laptop now randomly freezes at Windows bootup/resume (at Startup/resume logo). The HDD's indicator shows that there's no access. I had to press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the laptop, and then, in most cases, it boots up/resumes perfectly. After Windows loaded, nothing seems to be unstable.

Laptop passed full tests from Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox. I tried to plug out and in the HDD, but seems to be no help. What should I do now?

Could be anything but since it passed the Toolbox Test, most likely is Windows. Try a full format and reinstall Windows and see.

I tried to install a fresh copy of Windows, but it seems helpless. After first steps of installation, the laptop freezes at next boot up. Restart by Ctrl + Alt + Del, and then it continues as normal. Just too bad. :(

No. Lenovo support center called me to give them the HDD diagnostic log
file. It seemed to be normal and then they closed my case.
I can't get the laptop to service center now. They may keep my laptop for 5-7 days, which will kill me.

Just wondering, are the boot order set up properly, like in 1st device CD Rom and followed by HDD? Also, is AHCI enabled or disabled?

Try downloading a Linux LiveCD and seeing if that will run w/o freezing.

1st device is HDD, unless when I need to install Windows.
    AHCI is enabled.

I think that fall detection sensor causes the problem. It recognizes false moves and then tells the HDD to stop. Just my guess.

Don't know if htis would help but I ran System update several times on my T400 and after installing all I was getting bluescreens at different times. Decided to do it all again from a fresh image of my sysstem and did not install the UltraNav driver or utility. So far so well but have not run long enough to know whether that driver was the problem.

It's weird but after some tests, I found that it may be USB ports that cause this problem. Sometimes, USB devices (such as mouse, HSPDA modem,...) are not plugged properly in to USB ports, and my laptop freezes at boot up. How embarrassing! I plugged out all USB devices and then, my laptop boots up totally normal.

I'm so happy that problem's solved now. It's the second time I found that the problem was caused of something seem to be not involved. How interesting. :p

Thank you so much for your help.

i actually have the same problem

    running windows 7 x64

i had the stock seagate 160gb 7200rpm HDD in the laptop, and everytime i move the laptop while it booted up the Hard Drive stopped, what happened then was that the HDD activity light would blink once per second in a defined rythm...

but the system froze, i could still move the mouse pointer but that was it, nothing reacted..

now i recently installed this Momentus XT Hybrid 500GB Drive from Seagate, and the same problem persists...

i really think that the shock protection is overzealous at bootup and then freezes because it doesnt resume the HardDrive because other Windows services had a higher process priority, could that be the case?

cheers if anybody experienced the same and has a solution

oh and btw, i dont have any USB devices connected, so the above solution doesn't apply to my case unfortunately..
