From 2 to 3 hours. Depends what you do. You get a 43Wh, 6cell, while normally 6 cells are about 55Wh. As mrpeaches mentioned here on the forums you can get the Ultrabay battery, which is 23Wh if I am right, and adds somethink like 1-1.5 hours more. That is with integrated graphics selected.
To the CPU whine. I registered it after 2 weeks of use when I closed my window and turned of my fan with tpfancontrol. It's nothing something bothers, just your machine isn't dead silent when you have the conditions to hear everything from it.

wow, thanks for the advice. This is definitely not the laptop for me.

I'm wondering which number is more correct.

We're both right. My number is with the ultrabay battery. Tulip's is not.

So its more or loss impossible for you to make such a blanket statement - it defies the actual nature of how sound is experienced. -

Did any of you guys get the T410s with the 5 in 1 card reader? If so can you tell me where its located? I got mine through ebay and it said that it has a cad reader but I haven't been able to locate it. ( I don't think it came with one but I want to make sure)
-
By the way I must say that my present T410s is much more well built and feels solid in my hands as compared to my previous T410. No battery wiggle, no creaking palm rest just pure quality.
When I used to pickup my former T410 the overall feeling IMHO didn't do justice to the Thinkpad name. The T410s completely changes that and more than justifys that thinkpad brand.
Best one grand I ever spent!!! -
Oh, I was just having a look on the Sony Z. Looks amazing in a 13.3" case with a Nvidia 330m... mmmm....
The card reader should be on the left side in direction to the front of the jack. It it is not there, then you have to have a 34mm express card slot, where I suppose you can get a decent card reader. Btw, into mine, XD cards does not fit. -
An X201 is a good alternative to the Sony Z. -
Price? Looks like the same for me in Europe as the T410s.
An X201 doesn't have a discrete graphics chip. But Sony is a bit crazy with their displays 1600 and 1920 resolutions on a 13.3" screen. -
Ah, okay. I wasn't aware you were in Europe. Prices are different there. Here in the U.S. you'll pay more for the Sony name than for the ThinkPad name -- or so it seems, to me. And yes, the X201 does not have discrete graphics but the new Intel HD integrated graphics is very good for non-discrete.
-
Yes, here the Thinkpad brand is still on par with Sony notebooks and their price for the name. You don't get good coupons here neither you are able to customize your notebook.
The intel HD graphics is really good, I agree. It decodes full HD Blu-rays without problems and even full HD flash. But for gaming it is incomparable with discrete ones. Not to say the 330m in the mentioned Sony Z. -
Hey guys,
I am trying to order the 5 in 1 card reader for my T410s but can't seem to find the part number for it. any help? -
I'm getting the same behavior on my T410S with switchable.
At first (1 1/2 month ago when I recevied it) it was so bad that watching video in the dockingstation was enough to bring framerate down, and fullscreen video wasn't possible. After a repair (having the motherboard replaced) it got a little better, but I still get the same behavior. It just takes a little longer before I get there, and it usually takes some gaming to get me there.
Before repairs it would even freeze the laptop, and I had to wait for it to cool down before booting it again. I haven't seen this behavior again. But running a few vmware machines, and a few instances of visual studio can be enough to heat it up to a point where moving a window across the screen is sloooow and choppy. At home all this happens while my T410S is sitting in the docking station.
Strange thing is how FAST the temperature just shoots up to the 80+ degrees C. reported by TPFan (I run it with the fan at the bios setting).
Temperatures (Celsius) reported by SpeedFan 4.41 is GPU=0, Temp1=80, CPU cores 35-50
I'm wondering what the "Temp1" is. I'm guessing it's the discrete card?
If I am on integrated, GPU is still showing "0".
I'm really curious to hear from others that have experienced the same overheating behavior... -
Anybody had their switchable graphics T410S into repairs recently? (the last month or so). Just running a movie on an external screen heats up the laptop to a point where sound is breaking up, and image is stuttering. Not so on discrete graphics, but discrete won't run two external screens while docking ....
I'd like to send it in for repairs again, it got a little bit better after last round, but am waiting to hear if anyone got the problems completely solved .... -

I realize its a bit of an old thread, but how warm does it get when doing basic web/word processing?
And how loud does the fan get overall? -
. The hottest I was able to get it, I can only describe as someones warm hand.
Fan is noticeable on Linux, actually very noticeable its on most of the time. It's on even when the notebooks cold to the touch.
For windows no problem notebook runs even cooler fan kicks in sometime, but it's not loud. -

and how are the screen angles/contrast/brightness?
-
angles aren't great with almost any non-ips display. Contrasts, well it's ok.. all depends on which panel you get (no you can't choose). Brightness, everyone says this is probably one of the brightest screens ever! LOL It's stupid bright!

i just realized that all the laptops so far have had pretty crappy screen angles (like 45 degrees
so i probably wouldn't notice.
