unfortunately the T470 screens are very dim too. around 260 nits or so.
the touchscreen version is a bit better.

Can you get a wqhd screen on the T470?
-
good question not sure. i would say probably yes.
-
can't, only t470s and t470p
the S version is pointless anyways, so the best option is to get t470pyaonyc likes this. -
ok. thanks for that update. T470p should be a better option overall than the T470

USB 3.0 for T420,
upon my own research, it seems the express-card 2 port USB 3.0 is a hit or miss option.
I think the most simple option is you need faster than USB 2.0 speeds is a eSata to USB 3.0 cable.
this way, you utilize the native eSata port on the T420, get 6 mbps speeds from USB 3.0 devices -
Update on my LCD screen upgrade.
I decided to not go the FHD route. The price / benefit ratio was not compelling. also, the risk of the flickering wasn't worth it to me.
i compared 1600 x 900 to 1920 x 1080 on a 14" screen and i feel 1600 x 900 is perfect screen resolution. FHD is far too small at 100% scale.
I upgraded to the Alienware glossy 300 nits screen
- LG lp140wd2-tlg1 (TL)(G1)
It is a huge upgrade. clarity is greatly improved. viewing angles are great. 300 nits. i can use this T420 outdoors with no issue.
The upgrade cost me $40 and 10 min.of time swapping out the stock 1600 x 900 screen.
I hightly recommend this upgrade.powerslave12r likes this. -
Just put my T420 next to my buddy's T470 FHD touchscreen and my T420 is brighter.
Its unreal how Thinkpad just can not get their panels right. -
hello t420 owners,
i would like to upgrade to windows 10 pro.
I am on the lenovo site. there are some drivers for windows 10 for the T420, but there are missing some.
Does all hardware work for T420 even with windows 7 drivers?
thank you t420 owners. -
-
thank you mobius. you are probably correct on this/
