    Attn: ThinkPad T42 Users.

I want to replace my HP Probook with another Business Laptop - preferably Lenovo ThinkPad T42.

Is the T42 still the "BEST" Business laptop in the market ? Has the quality/performance deteriorated (or improved) since taken over by Lenovo ?

Are there similar Lenovo substitues to T42 ? As I DON'T need a Internal CD Rom & has to be 14 "

    Thanks - Mave

    Hey guys,

I had a quick question that I hope someone can answer. I have a T420S and wanted to know if this laptop supports the Crucial M550 MSATA 512GB drive?

Is anyone having similar problems of the system overheating causing flickering screen under minimal stress such as playing 1080p Youtube videos or AOE2 that came out over a decade ago? I got my motherboard replaced by IBM while under warranty but now I am tired of constant shutdowns even though the fan has been cleaned.

This is what it looks like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqhEOQHaLqg

There's definitely something wrong with your machine. Mine runs at full power effortlessly and silently.

Same here, but its tolerable as you can easily remove the keyboard and do some dusting to cooling units, the fins and fan. Just keep the fan static while blowing the air. It gets broken easily.
Here some temperatures, but see, the fan is not workin on its full speed, thus the temp is up. Just cleaned the cooling, say 2 weeks ago.

And a "load" view for this kind of temp.. An other day in office.

Here is a good guide for keyboard removal for dusting the cooler..

Now I should replace my T420s with some newer model.. But there is some good 6 months time to seek for a newer laptop. 4 years of excellence behind with this individual. Ram upgrade to 12Gb was excellent upgrade..

As a long-time T-series fan (from the 600 days), every time a new generation comes out I eagerly check it out in the hope of a good upgrade, but the ever bigger drawbacks (e.g., worse keyboards) increasingly outweigh the modest benefits. So I doubt I'll be replacing my own T420s with a newer ThinkPad. :(
