    Hi,

I'm looking to buy a grade A refurbished Thinkpad T42 that has just been off-lease (the laptop has been used for two years, previously). I'm hesitant to buy this because of all of the negative attention it has gotten recently - particularly with the "loose GPU" issue in T4x models.

When I look at those posts I see hoards of stories about failing GPUs and I'm not very sure about what % of T4xs there are that actually have this problem. I would like to ask anybody to post the status of their T42 or T4x (especially if you've owned it for more than 3 years) as well as the model No. of their video card. ATI 9600s supposedly have a higher success rate, but due to inherent biases in previous postings I am unsure.

    Thanks in advance!

edit: FYI I do not plan to use the laptop for graphics intensive purposes (the laptop has an ATI Radeon 9600)

I had a T42 with the Raedon 9600 for about two years. I never had a problem with it.
