Greetings!
Should I buy me a Thinkpad T-series or wait for 5th Generation of Thinkpad for Windows 8 (Whatever MS gonna name it)?
I have a malfunctioning Toshiba Satellite back from 2007 with Vista and a Trusty Sony Vaio Z1 back from 2003 or 2004 (Overpriced but worth it).![]()
I am gonna use the computer for CAD when I begin studying architecture in University, web browsing and for general multimedia (music and movies), no gaming on it.
Last question: when the current (4th generation) thinkpad was released?

Generally, you should buy a computer when you need it. There will always be something better and faster on the horizon. Also, there are no fixed timetables for Windows 8. It might come sooner or it might get delayed. So no point in waiting for that.
But given what you wrote ... I am assuming you will begin studying in the fall? I would suggest you wait for the T520, and buy it during the summer / closer to fall. That way you would get a newer notebook that will last for you longer.
Even though you plan no gaming I would recommend one with dedicated graphics, because you want to do CAD on it. Be sure to get at least 8Gb of memory. -
T520 seems to be almost identical to T510 hardware-wise , doesn't seem like a deal to me, also prefer a Major update for the T-series.
Generally looking for a 15 inches screen size thinkpad.
And I am gonna start studying around april 2012, so no hurry to buy a new laptop for me.
EDIT: I've googled a bit and found out about Ivy Bridge processors from Intel gonna be unveiled in mid 2011, and will be released in early 2012, and Windows 8 getting released in late/early 2012 (according to the rumors).
Seems I am gonna wait till then for a Thinkpad T series.
Thinkpad T510 Or T520 Or 5th Generation?
