I got mine today, shipping was very accurate and fast ( free 2 days express shipping) . I really like T510, this is my first Thinkpad and the quality is really great. I have no flex nor palm rest cracking or anything like that.

I used my education discount stacked up with memorial day coupon. When I ordered, the education site offered the 9 cells upgrade for free and the 500 GB was for a reduced price. I wanted to order it a day earlier but I didn't have time and that was good because the memorial day stackable coupon was released next day. :D

I've had it for a little over a week, do not have any CPU whine problems or any problems with creaks or the keyboard. The only problem I'm having is with drivers for IPv6, has anyone had a similar experience with them not working? I tried to reinstall them but it did not work, there were about 5 or 6 of them. It doesn't really make a difference, so it's not important if they are not working. Other than that, this laptop has been perfect, the SSD is amazing and it stays surprisingly cool, I can use it on my lap without any heating problems even when I'm playing Fifa.

I'm using T410 right now. The fan is always 3800rpm. It's too noise to me.
Is the T510 quieter than T410? What's your fan speed?

Seems like the FHD screen shortage is over, I bought the t510 with 620m and FHD screen on 6/10 with an original estimated ship date on 7/9 and I just got an email today 6/20 that it was shipped today! Here comes the waiting game. How many days did it take for you guys to receive the laptop after you got the shipped notification?

Just wondering I left the fingerprint out of my configuration would I still have the trackpoint?

Hi everyone I'm trying to decide which laptop to get and the T510 looks great to me. I was wondering a few things:

    1) For people that replaced their HDD with an SSD was it easy to install and restore the system to factory state (using the discs that you have to make or do you have to use a hdd enclosure to copy the image)?
    2) Has anyone added a second HDD using the ultrabay?
    3) I was thinking of putting the HDD that came with the system in the ultrabay and then getting a Intel SSD as the main HDD. Is this feasable?
    4) Whats up with the various wireless options? Where is the info about them.

    Thanks!

It was on Memorial day weekend, there was a free upgrade to 9 cell, $100 upgrade for SSD, a 15% coupon, and the package came with the i7 and 4GB RAM at a reduced price.

Awesome man. Do you think theyll have something for July 4th weekend as well?

The guy I spoke to from Lenovo is giving me:
    i5-540
    4GB
    HD+
    9Cell
    320GB @ 7200
    3 year basic warranty

for 1066-- quoted around 1349 on Lenovo.com. but if you got your system for 1200I dont see why my system shouldnt be like 800

I would definitely wait if you can, the 4th of July is a good bet for a sale. And they always add in coupons also, who knows when they will do it but they do it quite often. The 3 year base warranty is nice though.

I am planning to buy T510. Waiting for 4th july deal. I have couple of questions in general to T510 owners:

    1) What is battery performance with 6cell battery?
    2) What is its weight with 6 cell battery and 9 cell battery?
    3) how much HD+ and FHD display differ? Is FHD worth $200 more?

    Thanks in advance.

I received my T510 today. To anyone hesitating..... dang.... by far the best Thinkpad I've owned. My keyboard is ROCK solid and the typing experience on it is 100% great. I have no creaks or issues of any kind. Heat management is awesome! Running Wprime for a few minutes I see temps around 140F, nothing that this processor would even flinch at. I haven't had a chance yet to run a stress test. CPU whine.... it's there if I hold my ear close, but I can't hear it from a normal distance. I'd really be nitpicking to worry about it.

I got the FHD display and it's a VERY nice display. The RGB component of it does saturate out your colors a bit but it's manageable. I certainly do think the HD+ would be a bit less headache but I'm really enjoying the FHD so far. I had a bit of a red cast on mine that I was able to remove with Windows 7 manual color calibrator. Eventually I'll get a real color calibrator.

I think that'll be 3-4 hours if I remember correctly, of course I have the 9 cell. The weight with the 9 cell is light enough to pick it up and carry around easily with one arm and use it on my lap, I doubt the 6 cell will be noticeably lighter. The FHD display has 280 nits and a 95% color gamut, the HD+ has 220 nits and I'm not sure about the gamut, but 95% is probably significantly better. $200 is a lot for a screen upgrade however, so I'm not sure if it's worth it, although you'll be looking at it 100% of the time when using the laptop, it's really up to you.

    Hi!

I need to buy a new laptop and the T510 is on top of my list, BUT I'm extremely worried about the high-pitched noise most users are complaining about. Absolute dealbreaker for me!
I'm also worried about a possible keyboard flex or a creeky palm rest.

I'm looking for a 15'' matte(!!) display notebook that has lots of power (thus I want at least a new i5 processor).
For matte screens these days there are not many options.
One is the T510, another option would be the cheaper L512 (it seems there are less problems with this model?!).
Then there are the Probooks and Elitebooks of HP (esp. interested in the Elitebook 8540w!).
The only other possibility would be Dell Vostro or Latitude, but both didn't really get good reviews as far as I can tell.

    Any tips for me?
    I really can't decide! :/
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks a lot for your comment.
Well, I guess so. Thing is that I just found so many people reporting about the same issues with the T510. When I googled for problems of any other notebook I'm considering, I could barely find anything.
Maybe because less people bought it or the models are already older or brandnew (like the Probook 6550b for example).

Hello any questions about t510. I won't buy in italy a t510 with this configuration:

    I7-620M (2.66GHZ, 4MB L3, 1066MHZ), 4GB X 2 DDR3, 500GB / 7200RPM, DVD±RW DL, INTEL 5 INT NVIDIA N10M-NS, DISCRETE 512MB, 15.6"; HD+/LED B/L (1600X900) NON GLOSSY, WWAN ENABLED, CAMERA, BLUETOOTH, FPR, WIN 7 PRO 64

    1) I don't if the NVIDIA have a dedicated ram (512mb) or it use part of 4GB system RAM
    2) It have a esata external port or not? In the Italian lenovo site I don't find this model and the specification are poor.
    3) For developper with visual studio is best i620m or i720qm? I think I620 for the fast clock then i720. It's true?
    Many Thanks

    Axel

P.S. Where the T510 with FHD+ display arrive in Europe/Italy?

I'll give an order for T510 at 10 July from UK, I'll be there for 4 weeks and I'm worried if process gets more then 4 weeks. I mailed to [email protected] about 5 hours ago but still I they didn't answer to me. Do you know anything about it?

And do you have any advices for someone who buys his first Thinkpad?

    Sorry for my English..

The draft was finally accepted as a standard as of 9/11/09, so everything should now be shipping with the full standard. Also, anything certified as "draft n" is guaranteed to work with the final standard anyway, and able to be brought up to the standard with a driver or firmware update.

I placed a UK order June 14 and it was delivered June 24. After reading some of the issues on this board I got a bit sweaty, dismissed the first rule of consumer forums that people with no problems rarely post and had almost convinced myself that I'd be sending it right back. Well the HD+ screen is crisp, sharp and bright, more blue, less yellowy than my mac but no worse for that. To my mind, the keystrokes feel marginally less positive than my old T41 but still very good, better than my Latitude and mac with zero flex with no creaking from the palmrest. I'm not getting any of the dreaded CPU whine, fan noise and I've not experienced any heat issues sitting on my lap for lengthy periods.

I've always preferred a trackpoint and the T510 implementation is fantastic so at the minute I'm not loving the trackpad though it could be because I've switched on all the bells and whistles but not mastered the gestures. For trackpad lovers I'd say that the mac still leads the way. Finally nobody buys a Thinkpad to use mainly as a media machine but the speakers aren't great for music as they have little bass and seem to distort on high volume. Fine through headphones or external speakers. Basically, feels seriously well-built, solid as a rock and thus far it's nice to be back with a Thinkpad.

How long did you guys have to wait for your laptop to arrive?

Lenovo Japan told me it would take 1-2 weeks.
I ordered mine 2 weeks ago and the shipping date was set for the 13th which was yesterday. So I called Lenovo Japan today and although I didn't understand the reasons very well (limited Japanese ability) I understood very well that they said it would take at least 1-2 more weeks!!!!!!!
    I was shocked!!!
I need it ASAP!! My old laptop is literally falling apart which is why I ordered the new one anyways!
Plus I might not be home for a while in 2 weeks (summer vacation).

Should I just cancel the order and see if I can something else which will be shipped faster??? :/

Hi guys, would appreciate some help. The search function on this forum is not the most effective, though the comments and expertise here are certainly useful. Have spent a lot of time looking around, but not too fruitful.

My situation is as follows: I have a 3YO T60, and I want to replace it when I go back to school. I wanted a 15" Thinkpad and it turns out I can get the W510 for cheap with bundled MS Office and CS5. However, the battery life is important to me, so the ~3 hours for W510 (9-cell) life not good enough, but quite painful to pass up the great offer.

Looking around this forum, I find that the battery life of the T510 isn't much better during light surfing either, at ~4hrs. So much for the 18hr, 22hr that was trumpeted in the pre-publicity. Think they left out a decimal point.

My usage patterns: MS Office, surfing. No games, no videos, no video editing, occasionally music.

Does this mean that I should get a T410 for the battery life, which people quote at 7 - 8 hrs? Quite keen to have a REAL real estate increase from 14 to 15, (rather than higher resolution which is not the same thing as a bigger screen).

    1. My main question - are the battery times I quoted accurate? 3,4 and 7 for the W510, T510 and T410 respectively, at 9 cell doing light surfing.

    Appreciate any comments.

For light surfing on the T510 I get 5 hours, and you definitely don't want to get the W510 if you aren't running anything intensive. And you can find some great deals on the T510 also, look out for coupons and packaged deals on the website or call a salesmen (heard that works also).

    Hey Guys,

I'd really appreciate some help. I just got my T510 today, and I wanted to know how I could enable the Bluetooth?

    Thanks, I appreciate it.

Congrats on the T510! I just got my T510 this past week and Bluetooth was enabled automatically. I guess yours is not working or just not turned on?

    Hi again,
It turns out when I actually needed to connect a device that I couldn't get my Bluetooth to work at all. Turns out it was never turned on. I pressed Fn+F5 and got to a wireless radio control panel that allowed me to turn on my Bluetooth radio. Hope this works for you.

    Hi,

Could you please help me? I just would like to ask a photo about an FHD T510 display when it's working. The reason: I've already a T60 (2007-7KG) with IPS/FlexView TFT and it's a brilliant display in my opinion. The viewing angle is perfect! No distortion! In the nearest future I would like to change it to a new one (maybe T510). Unfortunately when I asked Lenovo regarding this type of screen in a newer version of Thinkpad they sent a very sad answer for me: "Unfortunately we do not do the Flexview any more, sorry." but for me is very important the perfect wide viewing angel without any distortion! I would like something like this: http://www.notebookcheck.net/typo3temp/pics/0cf0137bb8.jpg Where I can see the colour distortion rate.
This picture comes from this article. This screen quality is unacceptable for me... :(
Is the FHD display an valuable replacement for the IPS/FlexView?

Thank you in advance and sorry for my poor English! :)
