wow.... thanks
-
That's a heck of a deal for the best notebook screen I've ever seen. I configured it with the minimums except for the DVD burner. It was $1150 which I think is a few hundred cheaper than the previous low though I could be wrong. If I were in the market, which I am not, I'd be looking at this.
-
It's a great promotion for a basic configuration. But any upgrades are not discounted. So an upgraded machine I configured online today cost more today than it cost last month. You cannot use the coupon on most discount sites like SPP
The code will not apply to any T60p flexview.
Yesterday at IBM, I carefully compared the new T61 15.4 side-by-side with a T60 flexview and a T60 4:3. The T61 15.4" was comparatively poor (brightest but uneven and harsh), the 4:3 was better (more sharp and even, but les bright), and the flexview was the best (sharp, smooth, even, accurate colors, best contrast, and of course best viewing angles). -
Code works on IBM EPP. Also was about the same price as a similarly configured T61 14ws (DVDRW, 2Ghz, 100GB 72k, fingerprint, etc) for me which isn't bad since it is flexview.

Code no worky with T60p flexview, anywhere.
You gotta decide whether you want "the right T61" or a flexview. I've compared them side-by-side and it's a no-brainer to me that the IPS wins. The only problem is, I prefer the 14" form factor (ideally in 4:3). Trade-offs, sigh.
Good luck! -

Heh, almost considering picking up another T60 during this sale to have one as a spare
EDIT: haha, discount price is 237, but the coupon still takes off 250 bucks. Awesome deal! -
-
Hmm I'm still finding that a loaded T60 flexview is more expensive than it was on Memorial Day (the 2 days when they further cut upgrades).
Dunno why coupon doesn't work on the T60p. I hope the T60p costs less later. -

Does Lenovo use PVA panels in any laptop model?
-
-
thanks for the coupon code - I just ordered a T60 w/ an X1400 and 2.0 Core 2 Duo. this is a fantastic deal - should ship on July 12 so we'll see if this flexview is as good as everyone says. I saw one years ago and didn't think much but they hopefully have improved with time.
-
14" or 15" 4:3 Flexview and the T61.
Will this option become available in the near future?
Or the 4:3 Flexview is pretty much a thing of the past? -
From everything we know so far no. The FlexView has only been available on the 15" models. Supposedly Lenovo cannot find a reliable supplier for the screens which is why they are going away. If you really want one, now seems like a good time. The Santa Rosa based T61 only offers a modest performance boost.
-
ZaZ, how is your current rig running?
I hear the 60-series run quite hot, at least when compared to the new 61. -
We've had some nvidia-video-equpped T61's returned that overheated and fried the CPU and/or GPU. It might be because a number of the fans are defective, and the assembly is terrible so the heatsink fails.
There were also heat problems on the first T60's equpped with the ATI's, in the 14.1" form factor. That was fixed with the October refresh (core2duo).
We at IBM have seen a LOT of problems with T61 assembly.
A number of prematurely cracked cases too (reminds me of emachines a few years ago, yikes!)
Not so bad with the X61 yet at least. -
-
Like faults in the design itself, or sloppy assembly lines, or inferior parts tolerances or maybe just general teething problems caused by the newness of the design (will improve given some time)? -
hmm i hope not design flaws, so yes hopefully teething problems with the new assembling setup
-
Is the IPS flex view a 6 bit panel or 8 bit?
Also is there a power limiting factor in 8 bit panels or is it just a cost issue? -
Can't wait for your review. -
So this is going to be at least as high quality a display as that of my old Z series?
My t 61 is going back because I can't believe how much of a downgrade it was in this regard. Saved a cart configured w/this "flexview". Maybe that's the same thing I have in my old one, because I can see it from any angle, unlike this 61.
Thanks jull, great stackable savings. -
Whew, I ordered it today. If I don't like the size I will return it and order a T61 SXGA+ since they should be about out when I receive this one. Great deal, thanks!!
-
So how long after the day you "convert to quote" is your order number valid? Will preserve until that expiration if the coupon expires in the meantime?
-
However, the rep I ordered from said they the t60 15in w/ flex won't be available much longer. -
You would be well advised to include a 3-5 year warranty on that. I've seen so many thinkpads break down in 3 or 4 years, and they are prohibitively expensive to repair.
I have had two thinkpad LCD's malfunction before and need replacing.
IBM service has a large stack of FlexView panels to fix in-service machines under warranty. You will not be able to buy these screens anymore. So if yours needs replacing, and you have no warranty, you'll be totally outta luck. -
Also make sure you're properly entitled to EPP. After the meyers fiasco this month, we're redoubling efforts to catch invalid epp purchases. Every epp laptop will be eventually verified directly with the employee to ensure the order is authentic, and those that are fraudulent will be canceled or have their warranty voided.
-
1. I intentionally did not upgrade the warranty. Why? because if I choose to return the system the system I replace it must be more expensive or I am subject to a 15% restock fee. Since the T61s are a little bit cheaper, this was a good way to ensure I wasn't going to pay more than I wanted to if I returned the t60. As soon as I decide if I like it, I will upgrade to 3 year thinkpad protection.
I have two years left of college. My first laptop (toshiba satellite) was dropped 18 feet in a targus bag. It survived, but took a bruise or two. Accidental protection for me is worth the peace of mind while in college dorms. After three years I will upgrade to another computer...
2. I have a close friend who works for IBM. Since 1.E. states: Family members and personal friends of the above. I think I am properly entitled to EPP.
Just because some freeloaders took advantage of somebody's serial number, don't jump on the innocent
EDIT: Sorry if that came across wrong... I just don't appreciate people question my honesty... -
Also on thinkpad.com it says
-
Just ordered one. Thanks for the code.

DELETED. ten
-
OK GUYS.
CHadwick, Murphy, anyone else who ordered w/this-
My coupon registered in cart, and on the final total when I entered my credit card info, and then the confirmation page afterwards showed the right total still... then the email they sent me (along with the order status page linked in the email) showed $250 more!!
W T F ?!
Luckily I snapped a screenshot of the "thank you, order status, etc" immediately after I ordered that shows the right price.
Can either of you relate? If the coupon had expired, I know it would have said "not valid in this cart"- not just let me use it, lower the price, only to then say nah, we'll still charge you the higher price. -
Have you tried to contact CS?
-
I had no difficulty, but I ordered through a sales rep over the phone. Sorry to hear about that...
PS, I also ordered w/ EPP discount. -
Ordered Friday 6/29 shipped today 7/3.
-
I hope you all like them as much as Snap does. I also hope these continue to be as good and consistent as before (the inconsistency in the T61 screens is unnerving, especially given the relatively new restocking fee)
-
Thank you Bunny-san. Oh yes, Snap is very pleased with the Flexview. To view my level of joy you can read my T60p Flexview opinions here.
-
The free Upgrade coupon seems not to be working anymore.
-
The coupon was one week so it expired today. If you didn't place your order yet, you cannot use coupon.
Not sure, but I believe even on a quote, they cannot convert a coupon-portion of a quote to an order after the coupon has expired.
You'll have to wait until the back-to-school sale coming up. Which might well be cheaper anyway (usually it is).... if they have any flexview screens still at that time. -
I ordered a T60 with the Flexview coupon. I just called in to change the optical device in my order. They needed to cancel the factory order to make the change. The rep over the phone said that the discounts I applied to the order would still be valid, I hope they will!
-
They're open there today?
-
Sorry, I called in yesterday.
-
It wasn't even converted to a quote.
