Does anyone know how much the T60 15.4" widescreen weighs with the DVD burner and battery? I'm debating between the ASUS V1JP and the T60 widescreen and while the stats appear to be the same at around 5.5 lbs, the ASUS weighs 6.5 with the battery and optical drive. Does anyone know if the Lenovo weight already factors in the optical drive and battery? I'm leaning towards the ASUS for a much better graphics card, but if it weighs a pound more then I will probably opt for the Lenovo.

    Thanks!

I just got a T60p. The 9 cell battery gives it some weight. But it is not outrageous. Go with the 6 cell battery or the ultrabay battery to save on weight.

Including the optical drive and stock 6 cell?

    Thanks!

I just used a kitchen scale and measure my WS T60. Since it only went up to five pounds, the laptop without the battery and optical drive weighs 4.5 lbs. and, surprisingly, the battery and optical drive weighed in at 1 lb, giving a total of 5.5 lbs for a T60 WS with the optical drive and a six-cell battery. I can't say that my kitchen scale is accurate to the dot, but it does give a pretty good estimate, which confirms what ZaZ had. :)

That puts me over the edge, I am going to order a T60P widescreen this week :)

I really appreciate you taking the time to weigh it, since it should weigh a pound less than the ASUS V1 and have better build quality then I feel like it is the better long term solution for me.

I just hope I get the good LG screen, like you, and not that crappy Samsung one ;)

WooT! Now you should be focusing on figuring out which keyboard/LCD you got ;)... Have to figure out also how long it'll take to get to you =[...

Also, make sure you get the updated software on your laptop, as from my experience I have gotten very outdated software on my brand new T60 WS. (Easy Way: download System Update 3 and let it do its thing ;) )

I should just put that in my sig, huh? What do you think chaosrl ? ;)

I answered this question on the Thinkpad.com forums.

My T60 WS is exactly 5.8lbs with 6-cell standard + 3 cell ultrabay battery. The optical drive and the 3cell battery weigh .5 and .55lbs respectively.

I sure hope I get the LG, I think that I can deal with any model of keyboard. I'm a complete keyboard Nazi for desktops, but it is mainly because I prefer laptop style keyboards like the Logitech Dinovo and BTC models. As long as my T60P has a short keystroke, low profile, and a nice clicking sensation then I am happy :)

Thanks for the information! It looks like my ship date slipped from today to tomorrow. They had 32 units of the model I wanted in stock when I ordered and they still have 16 units left in stock at the moment, so they must just be slow to process orders... I upped it to the 2-day shipping so that I can hopefully have it in time to use for an upcoming project.

Lol, acaurora, you probably should. No worries, I won't stick it in mine :p.

skibbz, if you ordered a preconfigured model, wouldn't you be able to get the serial number first? I don't know exactly how that works, but once you have the serial number you can get the exact parts list.

on an unrelated topic, Logitech has a DiNovo Edge that I just bought. It is essentially the newest version of the DiNovo with a built in touchpad. It's really great, I have it and I love it. The range is crazy though... I have gotten it as far as about 5-10 meters! Battery life is also awesome... nearly 2 months before I've had to recharge it.

chaosrl, i tried to fit in as much as i can. there's a limit as to how much stuff I can put in my sig =-[...

acaurora, on an OT note, is there some sort of warning/indication when new updates are available? Or would I have to go look on Lenovo's site every so often for new updates?

As for an on-topic question, does anyone know the weight difference between the six-cell and the nine-cell battery?

chaosrl You can do the RSS feed - I believe it is mentioned elsewhere on this forum, but its "http://tools.4dots.com/thinkpad/?id=<MODEL#>", where u put in your model number. If you have FireFox or any other RSS feed reader you can do that. Otherwise just run System Update 3.0 every now and then. From my experience I see new updates every few weeks.

I got the LG screen :)

...and the Chicony keyboard, but I am not too concerned about that. I can always order the other keyboard models for $40 if I can't stand the Chicony.

From what I"ve seen, if you call Lenovo and say that you want the NMB keyboard and are unsatisfied with the Chicony, they will send you one. Although you may want to check it out, as I do not recall if you have to send the WHOLE laptop back or they will just ship you the keyboard part for you to install yourself and that you have to ship the old keyboard back (there are a few threads here that mention it)
