I know that the T60p's graphics card (ATI Mobility FireGL V5200) is the workstation 'equivalent' to the Mobility X1600 (correct me if I'm wrong). So is the only issue with games and the like compatiblity then?
EDIT - I just saw Dooho got this computer. Do you have any games by chance that you could test out on it?
-
This is from things I've read, I have x1400, so I don't know for certain. The FireGL firmware/driver is optimized for CAD/CAM and business applications. This means that certain optimizations were made for complex rendering that affect real-time rendering (games). Also, there are supposedly DirectX compatibility issues, but I don't know if that's really true. 3dMark05 for T60p w/ 256MB FireGL is 3311 (512MB gets a whole 3316) while a similar X1600 is 3595.
Found these at http://kettya.com/notebook2/3dmark05.htm I think I reported the scores, but since I can't read most of the stuff on that webpage, I might have just given you somebodies' extensions at work. -
sorry dude, not a gamer. i got this this GPU for CAD and 3D modeling software
-
That's ok, I'm not a big gamer either, but I want to be able to play some games...
Anybody else have any experience they could lend me? -
i can tell you that its the most amazing laptop i've ever personally seen and used. the power is incredible. last night i was burning rescue/recovery discs, downloading iTunes, dowloading sketch-up, running a virus scan and surfing the internet all at the same time with ZERO lag.
the screen is AMAZING and the GPU is perfect for what i need it for. i coudn't be happier.
good luck -
Awesome! Thankyou!
Since I named this title generally enough, another T60 question...
Does anybody know exactly how far the 9 cell battery sticks out the back? -
1"-1.25" i'd say, don't have it in front of me, but its not bad. i haven't tried to put the computer in a bag yet [ups is delivering it today], but it doesn't bother me
-
Could you, by chance, let me know what kind of bag you got and how it fits?
-
i got the timbuk2 outtawhack...i thought this was a good solution because i can carry it on my back when im riding my bike, but i can also hold it like a briefcase if i want. seemed like the best sporty, practical, professional combination out there. before i bought it i emailed their customer service with the t60p's dimensions...they said it will fit, but i'll let you know for sure once i get home today.

here's another thread that may interest you....

Thanks. I took some time browsing those forums. ALOT of useful information.
I was looking at this bag also. I figured with the 9 cell it might work?
http://www.targus.com/us/product_details.asp?sku=TCG400 -
got my bag tonight wez....really nice, much better than i expected. fits snug on the back for bike riding, has a shoulder strap and a briefcase handle, but all are designed well are are really out of site. the laptop pouch is corduroy and very heavily padded. there is another pouch for whatever, 2 zipper pouches and a key chain loop.
im very pleased -
Sounds pretty nice. Do you have any idea why the IBM site won't find the parts for my T60p when I put in the serial number and type number? It brings up that the computer exists and the specs on it.
But it won't bring up the warranty or the different parts info.
Any Ideas?
Thanks
Will
EDIT - Dooho, so would a bag made for a 15.4" laptop be the way to go with the nine cell then? [Such as the Targus I linked to a couple of posts ago...]
-
well to be sure, i emailed the people at timbuk2 the dimensions...i think you should do the same, otherwise its hard for me to say
-
-
can't really help you there...not sure. my model # is special to harvard, so it doesn't show up on the lenovo website or the tabook
-
I was doing something wrong it's working now...
-

ey just wanna ask...
is the IPS screen available only in the 15" models? i am thinking about getting the 14"... but i have to admit i am still tempted to that 15in model -
Yes, as far as I know the IPS is only available in the 15" models. But I'll tell you right now that the screen on this 14" is nothing to sneeze at either.
-
hmm... now to choose between the 14" and the 15" with IPS...
does anyone know any retailers and resellers of T60P with IWS and international shipping? -
Try euclidcomputers.com . They don't have the lowest price but at least they can help you with international shipping. Also check to make sure that your T60p is an IWS model especially since its an expensive investment.
-
This is a really stupid question...but by chance...
Is there supposed to be a small dent on the right side of the palm rest right next to the touchpad? I ask because it actually seems to almost fit the bottom of the hand pretty well. If not I'll have to give Lenovo a call today or tommorrow and see If I can get a replacement.
Thanks -
Also, does anyone know how much having a discrete GPU (whether FireGL or Radeon x1300) might reduce battery life when not working on 3D rendering?
Thanks
Saul -
Seeing as how the T60 does NOT have an SVideo out. I found a cable that will let you convert the VGA port to SVideo or TV Out. But it says it only works if the VGA Port is TV Out Capable. Does anyone know if it is? Or how the heck to tell?
-
my oh my..euclid's t60p models with IWS are way expensive.... i think i'm gonna go with the T60p 15inch 2623 model... or that Z61m they are offering.. at least their Z61m's are supported here in the philippines
-
dooho,
Are you running any 3D Studio? -
Looking at x1400 myself. Do you know or have a sense of how much it may reduced battery life compared to the integrated Intel 950? (When NOT running graphics-intensive applications)
Thanks
