Does anyone with the Thinkpad T61 have any issues with the headphone jack buzzing like all the Dells?
I am considering ditching my Inspiron 1520 and buying a Thinkpad if it could help me get rid of that annoyance.

No there shouldn't be any headphone buzzing. I have used my colleague's T61 a few times and there was nothing. Nothing on my X61 or former T60 either.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I had the issue on my Latitude D610. It was very annoying. I would have thought they had fixed it by now.

i had this problem with my T61. I only got it with my "good" headphones. A slight staticky, buzzing noise, only audible when the volume was very low. I could not hear it with iPod earphones on.

I figure it had something to do with the 7200rpm drive. I called Lenovo about it and they told me to send it in, but I did not have the luxury of time when I was faced with that decision.

That's interesting. I consider my headphones to be quite good (Sony MDR-EX90LP) and I haven't noticed on my X61 or on my colleague's T61 (watching a movie).

The buzzing noise I am referring to on the Dell D610 was very noticeable regardless of which headphones I used. So bad in fact that I got my company to get me a replacement - only to find the same issue again.

it was annoying enough that I considered buying a $50 external sound card instead of sending it in. It was definitely there. Im no audiophile but this sound was definitely there. Since I am in the library most of the time and music is set low and no ambient noise, it was very very annoying.

Son of a $%#$^. I'm thinking about selling my 1520 this week and getting a 14.1" T61, and I swear if it has headphone noise...

Just plugged in my headphones for the first time. Crystal clear, and these are the cheapest headphones around, my school library hands them out for free.

like i said, might have been a faulty board, jack or the 7200rpm drive

Just tried out my Sennheiser HD555 on the T61. Sound is crystal clear, no background noise. Nice highs and lows. I had an inspiron 700M which had the background noise problem, everytime the HD was accessed, the noise would come on.
