    Hi,

Recently I sent my T61 laptop for repair to lenovo to fix the "Fan error" problem.

Once it came back from very next day I am experiencing a different problem:

Problem: The laptop goes dead abruptly. When this happens ,the power indicators don't show power-on light or battery light.

WHen I contacted Tech support they said that this happens because of static electricity built-up and told me to remove the battery; hold power-on button for 30 secs..then press the power-on button for 15 times..and then put the battery back and connect the power-cord. It worked.

But now this is happening atleast 3-times everyday...Whenever I am in the middle of doing something...it just goes dead...and all my data is lost.

This never happened in the 2 years..and has started only after the laptop was sent to repair.

If someone has experienced the same thing then please let me know a permanent solution.

    Thanks,
    S Ballani

The only reason my T61p would turn off like that was when it got too hot and the system would shut itself down without warning. I would always feel the underneath of the laptop and sure enough, it was extremely hot. Then I got TPFanControl to monitor the temps and boost the fan speed and it works quite well. Your may still be defective though requiring more service.

    Thanks for ur suggestion.

I checked beneath the laptop...it was not hot...

I called up the tech support guys and they said that mostly the system board is faulty and will replace that.

What is baffling my mind is that ...it went dead 3-4 times in morning and since last 4 hrs it is working fine....cudn't understand as what stimulates this action...

On googling found that others have also experienced the same thing

    http://www.masnick.com/2007/09/07/t...tton-code-to-bring-dead-laptops-back-to-life/

...few of them had same experience even with a new laptop...so am not sure that changing the system board will solve the problem
