Hey folks, I'm shopping for a laptop, and I've pretty much settled on getting a Thinkpad (A Macbook Pro still has a subtle temptation though). I'm STILL using my first laptop, a Thinkpad 390, which after a great deal of abuse is still to this day as good as new. I've tried replacing it twice now, and kept going back to the thinkpad when it's Dell successors started falling apart.

Anyway, I've got some questions regarding the T61 and R61 models, Lenovo's website is lacking a lot of details, particularly regarding the 15.4" models. I'm hoping some recent T61 or R61 owners can help me.

    1) The screens:
Lenovo makes no mention of glossy vs anti-glare screens. Are all Thinkpads still using the traditional anti-glare screens or have they gone to the dark side with glossy screens with some/all models?

    2) Integrated card readers:
    a) It appears that on the 14" models, an integrated 4-in-1 card reader takes the place of the Expresscard slot, but with the 15.4" models the card reader is separate so you can have both an open Expresscard slot and a card reader. Is this accurate?
    b) With the 14" models that are configured with a integrated card reader, is the card reader just a card that fits in the Expresscard slot, or does it replace the Expresscard slot entirely? Would I have an Expresscard slot if I needed it simply by removing the card reader?
    c) Does the R61 15.4" have the card reader? Is it on all 15.4" models? When you configure one on the website, the page for the 15.4" R61 makes no mention of a card reader, though other literature I've found to references one.

    3) Integrated webcam:
The configuration page for the 15.4" T61 makes no mention of an integrated webcam. Is that not available on the T61? I can't imagine the high-end 15.4" T61 lacking a feature that the R61 and 14" T61 have.

    4) Ultranav touchpads:
The last Thinkpad I used was trackpoint-only. I hate touchpads, I'm always bumping them with my palm and accidentally mousing as I type. Can you disable the touchpad portion of the Ultranav and just use the trackpoint?

    5) Battery life:
Lenovo's datasheet only has info for the 14" models, anybody know what the official battery life figures on the 15.4" models with a 6-cell or 9-cell battery are? Google has failed me.

1)all the screens are anti glare
    2) if you get a 4 in 1 card reader, you will NOT have an express card slot no matter what on the 14 inch. the 15 inch you can have both
3)the 15 inch T series does not have a webcam option
4)you can easily disable the touchpad by hitting Fn+F8 at the same time
5)not too sure about battery life, i'm sorry

Thanks, panteedropper, you've pretty much answered all my questions.

Just to be clear; both the R61 15.4" and T61 15.4" have built-in media card readers? Or is it just the 15.4" T61?

Oh, and I thought of one more thing:
    6) Ultrabay Slim:
Are all Ultrabay Slim devices and bays compatible with one another? Could I, for example, use the Ultrabay Slim battery of a T41 and use it in the Ultrabay Slim bay of a T61?

Unfortunately, not all Ultrabay devices are compatible with each other. The T4x series Ultrabay Slim battery won't work on the T6x series, and vice versa.

The R series has thicker optical drives so those aren't interchangeable with the T series, but the modular battery for the T and R is the same as is I think the modular hard drive though I am not 100% positive on the hard drive.
