    Hello,
I bought a used T61 with a WXSGA+ 15.4in matte screen. It wasn't until after a couple of months that I found out the color fidelity was awful. I found out because I connected an external monitor to it that is really good. Purples looked blue in my laptop screen.
After more testing, I found out that ALL the colors seem to be "chopped" when they reach the higher hues, like really bright blue, or red, or yellow.
I attach some pics of what I mean taken with a camera. They show exactly what I am trying to describe. If you look at the upper right corner of the color palette, you will see that the color changes abruptly, after which it is just a stain of all the same color. You will also notice a vertical divider that also marks an abrupt change in color.
I have tried a couple of settings in the NVIDIA panel, and also a couple ICC profiles, but there's no change. I formatted the computer recently and that did not fix it.
I guess I would like to know if it may be because the monitor has been on for too long and now it is just worn out. I would be willing to replace the whole screen if that is the reason of the problem.

Anyone? I really need to know if this is a common hardware issue so I can go ahead and get a new screen and get reliable colors again..

I have a t61p and I don't know whether this is connected to your problem or not.

I noticed that my whole display was getting dimmer. I sent it in and the whole display was replaced.

I've had my T61 since the beginning of 2008. After using it for so long, I'm sure it has lost some of it's brightness. I can't tell though, since I use it everyday for 4+ hours a day at it's max. brightness setting. To me though, it still looks bright.

Thanks for your interest. If you look at the pictures I attached, it is not about brightness, it is that the colors saturate at the higher hues, reaching a peak of color prematurely.

Did those. It failed miserably at most. I also applied a couple of ICC profiles that I found on this site. They make the colors slightly different, but there's a way I can tell if things got better, and that's moving a picture with different tones of violet from the external monitor to the laptop's. The problem is still there because a bunch of purple colors are lost and just turn into different blues.
