I just have a quick question about the Advanced Dock (Part number 250310U), and its use with the Thinkpad T61p. I'm considering getting the dock, but I have a 9 cell battery for my computer, and from the stock picture of the dock, unless I'm mistaken as to how the dock attaches, it looks like I would have to remove the battery, since it sticks out so much, when docking the computer. Can anybody who has both confirm or deny that?

Also, does anybody have any experience buying from Compaqparts on eBay? Despite their outrageous shipping prices, their price for the dock (refurbished) is still by far the best I've been able to find. They have a good feedback rating, but if anybody happens to have ordered from them, it's always nice to have more direct confirmation of quality.

    Thanks!

You will not have to remove the battery to dock the notebook. Trust me they've thought of this already.

Is there some reason you're getting the Advanced Dock over the Advanced Mini Dock?

I purchased a refurbished Advanced Mini Dock on eBay shortly after getting my R60, much like the one from CompaqParts. It's fairly low tech part. The chances there's something wrong with it is very small though not zero. Just give a thorough going over when you get it and make sure it works within the seven day DOA warranty period.

I'd say with 50,000 feedbacks of which 98+% are positive, they're a pretty safe bet. As always on eBay, pay with a credit card. It will offer you more recourse should things not work out. Good Luck.

    Thanks for your help!

I'm getting the Advanced Dock mostly for the extra Ultrabay slot, so I can use my DVD/CD burner and both of my hard drives all at the same time. I was planning on getting the Mini-Dock instead, because of how much more expensive the full dock was, but then I found Compaqparts selling it for about the same as the Mini-Dock typically goes for elsewhere.

You might want to consider getting the Advanced Mini Dock and an external DVD Burner. It will probably cost about the same and won't be as clutter friendly, but an external desktop drive will burn much faster and offer better burn quality. You can still use the ultrabay for your extra hard drive.
