    Hey everyone,

I am planning on purchasing a thinkpad x200, and after configurating the hardwares, I have arrived upon the insidious warranty page filled with confusion.

Anyway, here are the options I am interested in, but I am not sure about how it works:

2 Year EasyServ + 2 Year ThinkPad Protection for 1 Year EasyServ ThinkPad [add $237.15]

Q1 - I assume this means it covers both warranty and accidental protection? What does it mean when it says "for 1 year easyserv thinkpad?"

Q2 - Does this start as soon as I buy the notebook or as soon as the first year base warranty expires?

Q3 - Can I not buy the warranty at the beginning and just use the 1 year depot/express, and still be able to buy warranty before the 1 year expires?

Q4 - Lastly, I am from Canada, are accidental protection and warranty available in Canada? I ask this because 1 month ago when I checked the lenovo website, there was not a warranty page, so this newly added warranty page seems dubious.

These are my questions! I thank you in advance for taking the time to answer them :)

    Thanks!

    Yes.

As soon as you buy the notebook.

Yes, as long as you aren't buying accident protection which, in the US, has to be done within 30 days of purchase.

    No idea about question 4.

Thanks for the quick replies! I have 1 more ... opinionated question with regards to accidental protection:

On the website, it says accidental protection protects against things such as spill, drop and LCD damage. Now, if the LCD stops working, but not from damage, does that fall into the warranty or accidental protection category?

I ask this because I am trying to figure out just what warranty I should get. 2 years of both for $250ish isn't bad, but just how useful is accidental protection really?

There has been some other recent discussion on warranty (I posted some of my experiences there as well).. might be worth reading.. my opinion is it is worth having both... with the accidental protection, you dont really need to care if the LCD is damaged because of dropping it, or it just stops.. it should be covered regardless (since you would have both scenarios covered.. no back and forth about "why" its not working)..

    here is the link: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=298355

and to note, my experiences are US based, not too sure about Canada's warranty..

if the lcd stops working then that's considered hardware malfunction... and not do to your own negligence. Basically if you can prove it's not caused by irregular usage then it should not be considered accidental damage (but you know that's a Grey area).

Personally I got the 2 Year EasyServ + 2 Year ThinkPad Protection for 1 Year EasyServ ThinkPad and I'm from CANADA. I also bought it with my Visa card.. so technically i have 3 years warranty. I personally would get it because... it's a small laptop and can be easily be forgotten or glance over by and accidents will happen no matter how careful you are. Also, sometimes it's not even about how careful you personally are, but the people that use your laptop or that's around your perimeter. You can be chilling at starbucks or something with your x200 and some person knocks over your x200 with his/her bag or purse.. you see where i'm getting at?

    Racer,

I'm also in Canada and just bought a Thinkpad X61t with VISA from Lenovo online. I bought the "2 yr Easyserv for 1 yr easyserv Thinkpad" warranty, so similar to you but without accident protection I guess....

How does it work for VISA warranty extension? They give an extra year
after the Lenovo extension ends? I there a way to register the purchase with VISA online in Canada?

    Thanks!

Talking about Visa, I would advise Canadians to buy through www.visaperks.ca to get the best deal.

Unfortunately, you can't apply most eCoupons (like current for Boxing day) when you're going through visaperks.ca. So I for one got better deal through regular site + coupon. You still can use Visa card for extra warranty.

If you're placing order on Lenovo Canada web site, then you're getting ONLY information/options relevant to Canada. Month ago they where actually messing with the site (as usual), but warranty still was available (I talked to rep back then)
