I like them a lot. I think it makes the usage of the trackpoint buttons more egronomic, since your hands wouldn't be straight when using the trackpoint. Incidentally, they are the only series of thinkpad which have this design feature.
Anyone knows what happen to them in the X/T/W *30 series? Cost cutting i presume?

They are indeed very comfortable. The T400s was the model that introduced it. The T410 generation had them as well.

I've used both and didn't really notice a difference, though I wasn't really looking for it either.

I agree not much difference... I prefer the *30 one a little more if only because I tend to click at that inner corner rather than the curved section anyway.
Both are better than the new integrated clickpad though =/ -
I've used these rounded ones and straight ones. I hate the rounded ones. I think they are very uncomfortable for some reason. I much prefer the straight ones.
