How many 14" notebooks is Lenovo going to make? Looks nice, but 14"? Looks really large to me.
Is Lenovo ceeding the 13.3" market to other brands? -
Thats the same size as the X1. They just included a large display, so you have a slim-bezel Design.
-
Any word on whether they're staying with a full-voltage processor for this one?

ultrabook = ulv

Since it is not going to be released until later in the summer, I'll probably wait on replacing my aging Acer until the end of the year or after CES. That will give me time to look at the W8 tablets as well and read some reviews and user impressions before making a commitment to a new notebook. -

What type of screen? IPS?
Battery life?
Externally attached dock options?
Price
Reliability
Storage device options
How many SoDIMM slots?
Max supported RAM amount
GPU options if any
Does it run cool and quiet?
Did Lenovo say the X1C is an Ultrabook?
I see now the X1C is indeed using the Ultrabook trademark.
I would attach a pic, but apparently that site feature is broken. -

Is that magsafe I see?
-
lenovo canada website is saying august 2012 availability.
also mentions t430u as late 2012 availability. -
I smell lawsuits. Then again, magnetic power adapters existed long before Apple patented them.
-
Matte 900p screen is good but I wonder if it has a decent gamut and viewing angles. It will probably be miles behind the upcoming retina-equipped macbooks.

The 1600x900 screen on a T420 is fine for a lot of people. But people buying a high end X1 Carbon might not be satisfied with the typical 1600x900 screens currently shipping.
Hopefully Lenovo has this addressed with a higher quality IPS or PLS screen for the X1. If they don't, they are likely going to hear about it.
Resolution matters, but so does quality. -

X1C comes with IPS 1600x900.... i am in.

The X1c looks simply awesome and may be one of the laptops that keeps me from going to Apple/Mac OS X. Just waiting on pricing and screen details but this may very well be my next laptop. Edit: A good battery life wouldn't hurt.

Yeah I'm buying this

X1 is very sexy

its going to be whatever ulv cpu available, regarding ram, I think there is 1 sodimm slot, put Im not putting my faith on that, read this somewhere
-
now that i'm over the awe from just looking at the x1, i'm realizing that it makes little sense for me to actually buy it. For less money you can get an edge s430 with 2 sodimms and space for 2 2.5" Hdd's (or one + ODD), a more powerful processor, a discrete (if underwhelming) video card, and it just weighs one pound more. Is the difference in functionality between a 4lbs laptop and a 3lbs laptop really worth it? -

People that buy the X1 Carbon can't or won't buy an Apple MacBook Air. Carbon Black is going to be a signature look. If the X1C ends up being a truly premium machine, people that buy it aren't going to be looking at the same things you are.
-
What do you think is more durable, the current x1 or the x1 carbon?

I'm hoping the Lenovo rep lets me torture the new X1 Carbon. -

wonder when there will be a thinkpad yoga like the ideapad yoga.
-
A redo of the X300 with the Yoga LCD would be fantastic.

Looks like rather nice upgrades are made, I hope they will keep on working to increase built in batterys capacity.
BTW, isnt it time to move X1 and perhaps X1x0e to the "real" ThinkPads forum, given that all new ThinkPads will have the same keyboard? -

bollocks, you just need to see the treatment regarded to those that are here, in any forum

It seems the issue here is more around the root for the forums. forum.notebookreview.com supports a lot of different makers so the root forums are the makers, not oriented towards models or series like you find at forum.thinkpads.com •
At forum.thinkpads.com • you see pretty nice organization so you can look quickly in an area and aren't inundated with noise about other machines you aren't interested in.
Lenovo Community - Lenovo Community is organized ok, but their community software and layout is pretty poor. -
Generally, I agree. You guys have no idea how long we moderators spent debating back and forth before splitting the sections as they are now
What we have to balance is organization and activity:
On one extreme, we can divide the sections up into many segments, for example: Thinkpad T/W-series, Thinkpad SL/L/R/Z-series, Thinkpad X-series, Thinkpad Edge, and Lenovo IdeaPad/Essential lines. That would be the "ideal" layout in terms of what makes sense, but the problem then is that there's an unwieldy stack of subforums and they each appear less "active." You can see this in effect on some forums (ie, DesktopReview) where there are too many subforums for the number of active members.
On the other hand, we can stick with a status quo (back before the split, that meant everything together), which is not ideal since threads about the less-popular models are quickly pushed down and never resolved.
We came up with the current compromise after debating between those two extremes. The current layout is sort of a mix between distinctions of "real/traditional" and "new/so-called fake" Thinkpads, that we feel can help solve the aforementioned problems in the best way. The greatest downside to this is that the dividing lines can at times be hazy. So, you're all correct, really.
The current organization could change in the future depending on how Lenovo structures its lineup and how much activity we get here at NBR's Lenovo subforum, but as for now, we'll wait and see.
Hope that cleared things up! -

Now back to the Carbon, how bout that screen yall?
-
-
I'd bet the memory, battery and SSD are all swappable on the X1.
-
Ok after dissecting that video; contrary to what the blogger posted; the unit that was used in the water spill was not the X1C....
the thinkpad in the video is a lot fatter and in not like those in the gallery over at engadget:

This almost looks as nice and elegant as the Samsung Series 9 2nd gen. Sam resolution too. If only it has full 1080p...
