I found an interesting machine at the Intel booth at CES.
It appeared to be an x200t but had a Core i7 sticker. The machine had a trackpad on it as well.
It had the same style keyboard/trackpoint mouse buttons as the current x-series. There hasn't been any announcements on the x-series refreshes so hopefully this is useful to some of you. Is this what the x201t will look like?
The Intel rep told me there was a Dual Core Core i7 ULV with HT in the machine.
You can see from the images that it has 4 cores (2 physical and 2 from Hyperthreading) in windows. You can make out that it says x200 tablet as well. I can make it more obvious (legible) if you guys want more "proof".

Awesome bro - thanks for posting this; I'm excited!!
-
Seems like a possible x201T to me. I'm a bit surprised that they added a touchpad, but kept the old style keyboard. It would seem like they would change both.
I'm curous how a ULV core i7 would compare to a LV Montevina. (both battery life and performance). -
Im just looking on ebay, all the x200 models there dont have the LEDs in the same place as the pic?

Thanks for the news jaredy!
Lenovo has done a impressive job with their products this CES.
You also have gave us more inside info of Lenovo's products these days than notebookreview.com has.
So, rep to you. -
The funny thing was that this machine was not something Lenovo was showing off. It just happened to be noticed by a friend of mine at the Intel booth. He was talking about it after we were walking around somewhere else. And I was like no that can't be right. There isn't a Core i7 x200t... And lenovo hasn't announced anything for the x201 series yet! Sure enough the trackpad and the verification of the CPU cores confirmed it.
-
The tablet has LEDs in a different spot due to the rotating hinge.

Ah sorry, im not a tablet fan myself so i didn't realise

<double post>
-
from the first picture, is that a glossy finish on the palm rests, or do the people at CES just have butter rubbed on their palms?
-
Needmore4less Notebook aficionado
That was my exact thought -
This looks like a quickly-put-together concept machine rather than a finished product... which is probably why it still uses the old chassis and keyboard design. Interesting, though. If the X-series had a touchpad, I would feel much more comfortable buying one since there are still certain occasions when I do prefer a touchpad (although I now use mostly TrackPoint).
-
If this has a Dual Core Core i7 ULV then in a way isn't it really a x200' s't because since when has the x61, x200 etc had an ultra low voltage cpu?
I'm just wondering how powerful would the next x series be compared with the T410s! -
Yes, it was glossy. It isn't as rough of a matte finish like on other thinkpads.
-
I can't confirm for sure that it is specifically a ULV because I couldn't use the machine since Intel had it locked down. I was only able to see task manager because an Intel rep helped. I would obviously try CPU-Z if I could use it and get online
.
The Intel rep said it was an ULV so take that as you will until we get official announcements. -
It seems the screen is not a TN panel, just like the current x200t
-
Are you judging by the viewing angle in that last picture?
-

I know, it's hard to tell just from that pic.
First we will have to wait for the official release. -
X200s and X200t used to be offer with ULV CPU as an option.
-
this looks quite nice........... but don't like the glossy palmrest... the trackpad looks bit cramped but still usable for people whom prefer it.
-
a little birdy tells me production palmrests won't be glossy. it's more than likely a result of rapid prototyping and intel getting an early iteration.
but, i've been wrong before. we'll just have to wait and see.
-
Does anyone have any "little birdy"
when this could be out?
-
alot of rumours have been going around saying that the X200, X200s and X200t's successor is coming at Q2 of 2010.
-
I completely mised this one. Nice find my friend.
-
Why so late? :/
-
Probably to sell more new t/w series to those, who otherwise wouldnt buy them in favor of x201/210
-
Not sure, but the x200s and x200 Tablet came out about three months after the x200 (early November 2009 vs. early August 2009).
-
probably because its more profitable to serve the mass market first with th new 32nm arrandale cpus

That looks like a nice machine ...my first doubt would be heat and noise with the I7Core, really we don't have enough data yet there... usually when I buy a product a few months later there is an up-date and since I am about to buy ...better watch out ! In the end well you need a really big budget to get the latest and the best ... nice pictures though, one wonders if they can get the Tablet to weigh even less...
-
They are probably using the low-voltage i7s, which have a TDP of only 25w
-
The lowest TDP for mobile i7 is 18w.
-
I think thats the ULV though, which is pretty slow at the default speed
-
Yes, this is suppose to be ULV. The chips can use turbo mode.
-
Is there're any chance that Lenovo will put Displayport to X200 tablet successor (just like they did with X300 -> X301)
I'll use X200 as my main PC (2.0-2.13Ghz i7-LM, 4 - 8Gb DDR3, fast aftermarket SSD and Intel 5700MHD should be more than enough for me) and Displayport is necessary for connecting to 1920x1200, 2560x1440 or 2560x1600 monitor.
P.S. I really want X200 tablet due to touchscreen (perfect for notes) and tablet features (easy screen rotation, handy to read in transport or crowded area ect.), IPS or PVA viewing angles and Thinkpad build quality. -
I think you would have to purchase the docking station. I don't think the x201 refreshes are going to be that drastically different, aside from chipset and processor refreshes.
But heres to hoping. -
Adding Displayport isn't a big deal either. Intel GMA 5700MHD is pretty capable card and shouldn't have any problems driving FHD+ external display. And any expensive notebook in 2010 must have digital output.
As I wrote X300 got digital after refresh and X200 will likely get it as well. -
i don't think it is a question of the GPU capability, but more of a question of whether there is space left for placing another port, without significantly changing the layout of the laptop or decreasing the size of the heat vent.
I guess there is a good chance that the usb/eSATA and displayport maybe added by using the same miniature expresscard slot that is used in the T410, T510, and W510. This would give some extra space for these new ports.
My personal opinion is that the displayport and eSATA is a good addition, as this would mitigate the need for the dock and other add on expansion cards. -
This might not be the best place to ask such a thing, but here it goes anyway: you talk about "eSATA" and "expresscard" ports/slots. Are those in any way related to "external PCI express 2.0 connector" or is that something completely different? ... there are just too many connections possibilities out there.
-
Typically, ExpressCard slot uses the PCIe connection for maximal bandwidth. eSATA is a connector type and is essentially the same as a SATA connector for HDDs and SSDs.
-
I think it is x201, I found this link from the Chinese engadget.
http://chinese.engadget.com/2010/02/02/lenovo-thinkpad-2010-lineup-reveals-l400-l500/
It shows new products: x201t x201 and x201s. I wish they would add eSATA port and better speaker for the new model. They should at least offer two speakers. -
They are adding a L series as well?
-
It would be amazing if Lenovo somehow add USB 3.0 support.
-
What the heck is corporate mainstream. Isn't there already a T series?
-
x201 will release in Mar.1 based on the website:
"Ian Orford on January 30th, 2010 10:31 am
Hi Andi, I think that whatever you and I say, the screen resolution topic/issue is going to rage for a while to come yet!
We have the launch date for the ThinkPad x201, ThinkPad X201s and ThinkPad X201 Tablet now moved from 23 February to the 1st March. And the official naming convention is now X201!
If you going to buy one, then please let us know how you go and what your initial impressions are, Cheers, Ian

I think the L series is the replacing model for R series. IMHO many corporate will prefer use L series than T series for their engineer and technician.
-
Lack of X201 tablet rumors is driving me nuts!!!!

Not quite tablet news but x201 news none the less! Found this while googling for info about the x201.
