    Hi,

I bought my X201 two years ago with a six cell battery and these past few months I've been getting messages from the Windows power icon that says "Consider replacing your batter" and "There is a problem with your battery, so your computer might shut down suddenly" and in the ThinkVantage toolbox, it says that I have 37% left of my original capacity.

What I'm wondering is whether I *need* to buy a new one? With the way it is now, I can usually get just under 2 hours of use, and even though the extra few hours of mobility would be nice, I rarely use it away from a wall socket. But the main thing that deters me from getting a new one is that it costs $150 from the Lenovo website, which I don't think is worth it.

I plan on using this laptop for the next 2 years or so...so yeah :) Just really wondering whether it is imperative that I buy a new one? I mean, it's not like it's dangerous to be using this now-decayed battery?

Keep on using that battery, but I doubt that it will make it for another two years.

A genuine Lenovo battery with Panasonic cells (the only one worth owning in my opinion), gently used, in "green" can be had for about $50. No-brainer in my book.

    Good luck

@OP. In the meantime you could turn off the notifications if you wish. Click on the battery symbol on the taskbar>>click on the tab 'Switch to: Advanced,' >> click on the 'Battery' tab>> 'Battery Maintenance' >> untick 'Periodically show messages about battery capacity.' This should turn the notifications off while reticking would bring the notifications back. Personally such messages would irritate me :)

Ebay? Do Lenovo sell new batteries with Panasonic cells?

    eBay or marketplace on TPF.

If Lenovo still sells batteries for these - I believe that they do - you're likely looking at something in the $150 range...

What exactly does gently used or nearly new mean? I need a replacement battery for my T500. I get less than 20 minutes when it's unplugged.

Gently used is how I'd describe a battery holding better than 80% of the design charge, in "green".

You can pick up a Panasonic 9-cell one for under $50 shipped, presuming you're in the U.S.
